UK Shop Owner in Peterhead Convicted for Selling E-Cigarettes to Underage Buyer
A shop owner in Peterhead has been convicted for selling electronic cigarettes to an underage buyer.
Awder Far, the director of Seven Days Peterhead Ltd, was found to have sold an electronic cigarette to an underage test purchase volunteer during a compliance check conducted by Aberdeenshire Council's trading standards department on Marischal Street in the town.
Under the Health (Tobacco, Nicotine etc. and Care) (Scotland) Act, it is a criminal offense to sell electronic cigarettes to individuals under the age of 18. Mr. Far was found guilty and fined £400. Gordon Buchanan, manager of Aberdeenshire Council's protection services, stated: "This fine, along with the criminal conviction, sends a strong message to electronic cigarette sellers that we will not tolerate them supplying to those below the legal age and will take action when such illegal activities are discovered."
