Slatington Borough Council in the United States has passed a new ordinance restricting where tobacco, smoke, and vape shops may be located. Stores must be at least 1,500 feet away from schools, churches, libraries, parks, medical or health facilities, childcare facilities, or residential areas, and must also be more than 1,500 feet away from other tobacco or vape shops.

According to Tnonline, Slatington Borough Council in Pennsylvania has proposed an amendment to a supplemental zoning ordinance concerning tobacco, smoke, and vape shops in the borough.

During the public meeting, the Brownie troop in Slatington made recommendations to council members, encouraging them to pass the ordinance.

Council President Naomi Winch said these businesses push out family-friendly stores and promote unhealthy habits.

The ordinance will limit tobacco and vape shops to industrial zones only, at least 1,500 feet from schools, churches, libraries, public parks, medical or health facilities, childcare facilities, or residential areas. It also mandates a minimum distance of 1,500 feet from any other tobacco or vape shop.

The council passed the ordinance unanimously.
