Malaysia Education Ministry Deputy Director-General: Disposable E-Cigarettes Easily Reach Children,
The Deputy Director-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Education warns that disposable e-cigarettes may lead students to develop smoking habits, raising serious concerns about youth health.
According to a report from Malaysia's Nanyang Siang Pau on December 14, Azman, the Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Education (School Operations), believes that children's easy access to disposable e-cigarettes presents new challenges in keeping students away from smoking habits.
He stated that the easy access to various types of e-cigarettes is likely to pique children's interest and tempt them to try vaping, which is a significant challenge.
Azman made this statement during a health campaign against smoking and drugs when asked by the media about a disposable e-cigarette resembling a toy car sold online.
He emphasized that raising public awareness about the consequences of smoking and vaping is of utmost importance.
“The priority is to address the issue and make our children aware that these habits are ones they should not adopt, which is why all parties must work together to solve this problem.”
He noted that in addition to subjects like health education, the school curriculum has incorporated topics on smoking and vaping habits, even including such information in Malay and science classes.
Promoting healthy living is an initiative by the Ministry of Education aimed at increasing public awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and vaping. Currently, over 10,000 schools nationwide are participating in this initiative, covering a total of 5 million students.
