UKVIA Launches Petition Opposing a Potential Disposable Vape Ban
The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) is calling on smokers, vapers, and the wider industry to join a nationwide petition urging the government not to ban disposable vapes and flavors.
According to UKVIA, the petition highlights the public health consequences of “excessive and counterproductive legislation” that reduces the effectiveness of vaping as a smoking cessation tool. The organization says banning flavors and disposable products could hinder the transition of adult smokers from combustible tobacco to vaping.
UKVIA is engaging directly with its members, advocacy groups, and online communities to encourage consumers to support the petition. It has also launched a major social media campaign to maximize sign-ups and share the stories of former smokers who have switched to vaping.
“Tough restrictions or bans on disposable vapes or vape flavors being considered in the government’s ongoing consultation could amount to the biggest health setback of the century and could undermine years of smoke-free progress,” said UKVIA Director General John Dunne in a statement.
“Under no circumstances should these products fall into the hands of minors, and there is no doubt that preventing youth access to vaping is crucial. But this cannot be achieved by sacrificing vaping’s potential as a quit-smoking tool for adult smokers. In the debate surrounding the government’s consultation, the voices of vape users have largely gone unheard, yet they may be the ones who suffer from any punitive measures. That is why we created this petition: to provide a platform for the millions of adult vapers who have quit smoking through disposable vapes and flavors. It is now vital that vapers across the country unite to warn the government against introducing restrictive and harmful legislation.”
This new petition is part of UKVIA’s ongoing “Save Vaping, Save Lives” campaign, which also includes providing information to association members and encouraging and mobilizing vape users to respond to the government’s youth vaping consultation.
