Police Misconduct? South Carolina, US, Investigates Compliance Check at a Vaping Shop
The Fairfield County Police Department is under investigation for tobacco sales compliance issues, after four undercover officers arrested a store employee at Planet Vapor and then released him. The employee was accused of selling tobacco to minors, and the police are investigating.<\/p>
According to a report from wistv, law enforcement in South Carolina has confirmed that they are investigating the actions of the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office representatives who conducted a tobacco compliance check at an e-cigarette shop in Winsboro last week.<\/p>
The investigation focuses on the surveillance footage from the Planet Vapor store. The video shows three undercover officers entering the store, with one officer near the counter where e-cigarette store employee Max Bowling was located.<\/p>
The officer grabbed Bowling's arm and pulled him around the counter to arrest him.<\/p>
Bowling was detained for allegedly selling tobacco to minors before the police entered the store. However, Bowling's brother stated that the police did not identify themselves, and after searching Bowling, they released him from handcuffs.<\/p>
The Fairfield County Sheriff told wistv that Planet Vapor is under investigation for selling products to underage customers. The sheriff's office is conducting an internal investigation into the incident.<\/p>
