What’s the Difference Between the Old MOTI S Device and the New National-Standard Version?

Key point: What’s the difference between the old MOTI S device and the new national-standard version?

What are the differences between the old MOTI S device and the new national standard version?

Today, we will compare them in detail. First, regarding the production date, the old MOTI S devices were all produced before October 2022 and are now banned from sale, with virtually no stock left in the market. The new national standard devices are produced after October last year, making them legitimate, tax-compliant products that can be sold normally.

Secondly, in terms of packaging, we can clearly see that the packaging box of three new national standard devices is roughly equivalent to one non-national standard device's packaging box. This can be understood as the new national standard products being more environmentally friendly, or it can be seen as a pure cost-reduction measure.

Thirdly, regarding the logo, I have opened the product to show you. This is the new national standard logo, and this is the non-national standard logo. The logo has moved from the front to the back; previously, the back was bare, but now the new national standard logo looks symmetrical from both the front and back, which is very friendly for those with obsessive-compulsive disorder, right? Secondly, the logo used to be the second letter 'O' of 'MOTI' as the breathing light, but now it has changed to the 'M' logo as the breathing light. However, the most noticeable change is the warning label at the bottom, which has become less aesthetically pleasing.

Fourthly, regarding the configuration, there are changes. Firstly, the national standard device comes with a child lock function, but I personally find the MOTI child lock quite difficult to use. Other brands require three taps, but the MOTI requires you to insert and remove the pod four times within 2.5 seconds to activate and deactivate the child lock. You have to wait for the light to flash four times before you can start vaping. This means that from the time you insert and remove the pod four times until the light flashes, there is about a 7-8 second period during which you cannot vape. Many people will find that when the light is flashing, they have already brought the device to their lips, but at this point, you will find that it is not producing vapor. If a novice uses the new national standard MOTI and does not read the manual, they may think the device is broken after triggering the child lock. It is indeed quite difficult to use, but I think MOTI may have done this intentionally because most people won't need this function. This is a mandatory requirement of the national standard, and it should be intentionally made difficult to trigger. However, for those with children at home, this function does need some optimization.

Regarding the differences in configuration, we all know that the non-national standard MOTI has a soul mode, which is the power mode. By inserting and removing the pod three times, it enters the power mode, increasing the vapor output. However, the new national standard does not have this power mode, which feels like losing its soul. However, some bloggers have analyzed that even if you use the power mode with the new national standard pods, the flavor does not change significantly. I have tried it many times, and it seems to be true; after testing, there is not much difference between using power mode and not using it. However, it does feel a bit different, so I find it hard to articulate this issue. Personally, I think the MOTI pods are too mild now, which leads to not much difference when using the power mode. Regarding the power mode, I have personally used it for three years, and I feel that this function is just a selling point. When you first buy it, you might play with it a couple of times, but later on, you will use it normally because the MOTI device already produces a large amount of vapor, so you won't need the power mode.

Finally, regarding after-sales service, this is very important. Many friends with non-national standard devices, for example, those that are not damaged by human factors, can still be serviced and exchanged for the new national standard devices. Moreover, MOTI's after-sales service has no warranty period; it is a lifetime service, which reflects the attitude of a large-scale brand. Some friends also say that the quality of the national standard MOTI devices is better than before because now that the power mode is gone, we do not need to frequently insert and remove the pod, so the latch is less likely to become loose compared to before.
