Russia's Perm Krai bans the sale of vapes in commercial pavilions
Russia’s Perm Krai has passed a law banning the sale of vaping devices and nicotine products in commercial pavilions, while also restricting advertising. Violations will result in fines and other penalties. The bill is intended to protect children’s health.
According to URA.RU, the legislative body of Perm Krai (Perm Region), Russia, has approved a law prohibiting the sale of vaping devices, hookahs, and nicotine-containing products in commercial pavilions across the region.
In addition, the law restricts advertising for these products. The bill was originally proposed and submitted to parliament by Governor Dmitry Mahonin.
The legislation specifically bans the sale of tobacco or nicotine-containing products, hookahs, and smoking devices (vaping devices) in pavilions in Perm Krai. It also stipulates that signs and architectural lighting may not be used in the region to promote the sale of these products.
The law will take effect on March 1, 2024, but it will not apply to settlements in the region that have no stores.
Violations may also lead to confiscation of all related property, including nicotine-containing products and the commercial pavilions themselves. Fines are also предусмотрены for hanging billboards and installing lighting equipment to promote the sale of these products, with penalties of up to 50,000 rubles.
Earlier, Governor Mahonin pointed out the problem of vaping devices being sold in densely populated areas such as routes to schools, near residential buildings, and around shopping centers. He noted that tobacco sales are often left unsupervised, posing a threat to children’s health.
