According to a recent report by Nanyang Siang Pau, the Deputy Minister of Health of Malaysia, Lukanisman, publicly disclosed that from 2015 to August 2020, there have been a total of 100 poisoning cases caused by e-cigarettes. Shockingly, 69 of these cases involved children.
In recent years, the dangers of e-cigarettes have garnered widespread attention in society. Particularly, children, being the most vulnerable group, have become the biggest victims in this wave of poisoning cases caused by e-cigarettes.
Research both domestically and internationally has shown that the high concentration of nicotine and other harmful substances in e-cigarette e-liquids can have severe health impacts on children. The Deputy Minister's announcement provides stronger legal grounds and social pressure for preventing e-cigarette poisoning and addressing the issue of e-cigarettes.
Lukanisman clarified in the Senate regarding a question from opposition party member Lingeshwaran about e-cigarette poisoning cases that the Ministry of Health has submitted the "2023 Public Health Tobacco and Smoking Control Bill" to empower the government to regulate the sale of e-cigarettes in the market.
