Worcestershire County Council unanimously backs LGA proposal calling for an immediate ban on disposa
The Local Government Association (LGA) in the UK stated that a swift ban is crucial to reduce the risk of these products flooding into the UK after the proposed ban in France this December and the EU ban set to take effect in 2026.
According to a report by Bromsgrovestandard on November 13, Worcestershire County Council unanimously voted in favor of the LGA's proposal to ban disposable e-cigarettes. The LGA emphasized that a rapid ban is essential to mitigate the risk of these products entering the UK in large quantities following the French and EU bans.
Additionally, disposable e-cigarettes have been accused of posing a threat to waste collection and causing fires in garbage trucks.
Karen May, the cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, stated during discussions on e-cigarettes that the anti-smoking efforts have received cross-party support, focusing on the phenomenon of never-smokers starting to smoke and the accessibility of e-cigarettes to teenagers.
The council has also made significant progress in controlling youth access to e-cigarettes and continues to strengthen enforcement. This year, the county's trading standards team has seized 12,000 illegal e-cigarettes and disrupted further sales.
