Ken Kim, Design Director for New Categories at BAT Group, emphasized the challenges facing the heated tobacco industry and the importance of sustainable design at the Korea International Design Conference, saying that design must take social and environmental responsibility.
According to a November 2 report by Korean media outlet Theviewers, Ken Kim, Design Director for New Categories at British American Tobacco (BAT), recently highlighted the modern challenges facing the heated tobacco industry and the importance of sustainable design in a highly regulated sector at the “2023 Korea International Design Conference” held at COEX in Seoul.
Ken Kim said, “The role of design has gone beyond simple product design; it is about taking social and environmental responsibility.”
He also presented specific cases and strategies on strategic design approaches to achieving carbon neutrality, and on how design can address social issues and move industry toward a sustainable future.
“In the heated tobacco industry in particular, design elements that could influence minors must be considered carefully, and a balanced design strategy that does not arouse youth curiosity should be achieved by analyzing design preferences across different age groups.”
Notably, Ken Kim’s design work, “glo hyper air,” also drew significant attention at the conference. This ultra-light heated tobacco product, weighing only 75 grams, was inspired by aircraft styling and combines streamlined curves with metallic tones, showcasing exceptional portability and a fashionable look.
