Singapore Man Fined SGD 3,500 for Buying Vaping Products for a Colleague
A Singapore youth counselor was fined SGD 3,500 for buying vaping products for a colleague.
According to a Nov. 7 report from Malaysia’s Berita Harian, a youth counselor at Singapore Boys’ Home (SBH) was fined SGD 3,500 after helping a colleague purchase vaping products.
The man, identified as Ang Kim Chui Derek Andre, pleaded guilty to seven charges under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act.
Investigations showed that Ang helped seven colleagues buy vaping devices and tobacco sticks/pods for personal use. One of his colleagues created a chat group to make it easier for SBH staff to purchase vaping devices. Ang would consolidate the orders, buy the products from suppliers, and then distribute them to colleagues without making a profit.
There is currently no evidence that he shared or purchased tobacco products or their components with SBH youths.
It is understood that buying these vaping products and devices for private use is illegal in Singapore.
