According to reports from Tower Hamlets, a shop in the UK Thames sold e-cigarettes to a 14-year-old without verifying their identity. This was part of a test operation by the local trading standards office, resulting in fines for both the shop assistant and the manager.

The shop assistant was fined £120, with an additional £48 victim surcharge and £100 in costs. The company was fined £382, with an additional £153 surcharge and £400 in costs. The company's director, Sheikh Shahinur Rahman, was fined £526, along with a £210 victim surcharge and £200 in costs.

The trading standards office in Tower Hamlets frequently conducts operations to test whether children can purchase age-restricted products such as tobacco, knives, and alcohol. Cllr Abu Talha Chowdhury, a spokesperson for Tower Hamlets Council, stated:

“Our council is working hard to raise awareness of the risks of e-cigarette use among minors and to stop illegal sales of e-cigarettes.”
