The amount of imported e-cigarettes decreased by 13.49% year-on-year in August

In August 2023, the United States imported e-cigarettes US$69.153 million (approximately RMB 504 million), an increase of 3.97% from July and a decrease of 13.49% from the same period last year.

In August, the United States imported 45.304 million e-cigarettes (only the part calculated by cigarette), an increase of 6.91% from July and a year-on-year increase of 22.88% from August last year.

 

The average import unit price fell below US$1/piece for the first time 

The average import unit price of e-cigarettes in the United States in August was US$0.91/cigarette, down 21.8% month-on-month and fell below US$1 for the first time. Since the beginning of this year, the price of imported e-cigarettes in the United States has been in a process of fluctuating decline. The price of imported e-cigarettes in July rose to US$1.16 per cigarette from US$1.12 per cigarette in June, and the average unit price fell significantly in August. 

Indonesia becomes the second largest exporter of e-cigarettes in the United States 

In August, the main sources of e-cigarettes imported from the United States were China (54.3%) and Indonesia (41.5%), and the main import ports were Chicago (43.7%), Charlotte (40.4%), San Francisco (5.9%), and Miami (4.4%).

In August, the import share of Charlotte Port increased significantly, and Chicago and Charlotte Port became the two poles of e-cigarette imports in the United States.

In August, China's General Administration of Customs announced that China exported US$252 million in e-cigarettes to the United States, while the U.S. International Trade Commission announced that imports of e-cigarettes from China were US$37.571 million, which was only 14.89% of China's e-cigarette exports to the United States
