Health Canada Approves the Country’s First Nicotine Pouch
Health Canada has granted a license to Nicoventures Trading Limited, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco, to sell the nicotine pouch ZONNIC, which can help adult smokers quit by delivering nicotine to the body. Imperial Tobacco Canada (ITCAN) will serve as the exclusive distributor of ZONNIC in Canada.
According to a PR Newswire report on October 12, Health Canada has granted a license to Nicoventures Trading Limited, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco, to sell the nicotine pouch ZONNIC, which can help adult smokers quit by delivering nicotine to the body. Imperial Tobacco Canada (ITCAN) will serve as the exclusive distributor of ZONNIC in Canada.
It is worth noting that ITCAN is a subsidiary of British American Tobacco and has no connection to the Imperial Tobacco brand. Frank Silva, President and CEO of ITCAN, said:
“This is a first for Canada, because no other nicotine pouch has been authorized by Health Canada.”
ZONNIC is reported to be tobacco-free and can temporarily relieve cigarette cravings and nicotine withdrawal symptoms. It has received a Natural Health Product (NHP) license and has been authorized by Health Canada to be sold as a form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
