Malaysia Tightens E-Cigarette Regulation Under New Rules; Nicotine Products Become Key Focus

The Malaysian government recently revised the "Drug Law" to strictly regulate e-cigarettes, requiring that nicotine-containing e-cigarettes and e-liquids comply with tax requirements and be subject to consumption tax.
According to reports from Headtopics, Malaysian Health Minister Zaliha stated that the registration of the "Poison Law" issued on March 31 is a form of regulation targeting e-cigarette products containing nicotine liquid and gel.
"I emphasize that imposing export taxes on nicotine-containing e-cigarette products complies with Article 6 of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)," Zaliha said.
She added that there was no need to obtain permission from the Poison Committee before doing so. Previously, the Malaysian Tobacco Association (MKTM), the Malaysian Green Lung Association (MGLA), and Voices of Children (VOC) submitted a lawsuit to the High Court, accusing Zaliha of harming public health.
