Etomidate Added to Category II Psychotropic Drugs List, Effective October 1
Announcement from the National Medical Products Administration, Ministry of Public Security, and National Health Commission regarding the adjustment of the list of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances

According to the relevant provisions of the "Regulations on the Administration of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances," the National Medical Products Administration, Ministry of Public Security, and National Health Commission have decided to adjust the list of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The announcement is as follows:
1. Thiopental will be included in the list of narcotic drugs.
2. Dexmedetomidine and etomidate (excluding drug formulations containing etomidate approved for marketing in China) will be included in the list of Category II psychotropic substances.
3. Modafinil will be adjusted from Category I psychotropic substances to Category II psychotropic substances.
This announcement will take effect from October 1, 2023.
