Russia to Impose Flexible Export Tariffs on Tobacco Products Starting October 1
The Russian government will impose flexible export tariffs on tobacco products.
According to a September 23 report on the website of the Russian Nicotine Union, the Russian government will apply flexible export tariffs to a range of goods, including tobacco products.
If the dollar exchange rate is above 80 rubles but below 85 rubles, the tariff will be 4%; if it is at least 85 rubles but below 90 rubles, the tariff will be 4.5%; if it is at least 90 rubles but below 95 rubles, the tariff will be 5.5%; and if it is 95 rubles or above, the tariff will be 7%. No export tax will be collected when the dollar exchange rate is 80 rubles or below.
This measure is temporary and aims to protect the Russian domestic market. The flexible export tariff linked to the ruble exchange rate will take effect on October 1.
