Euromonitor: disposable vapes face tighter regulation; eco-friendly products to keep emerging over t
Euromonitor representatives emphasized the sustainability issues arising from the rapid growth of disposable e-cigarettes and predicted that Europe will introduce more regulations to restrict e-cigarette marketing and clarify tax policies to prevent underage use and reduce environmental impact.
[Two Supremes from Dortmund] During the Dortmund Tobacco Exhibition held from September 14 to 16, Two Supremes engaged in in-depth discussions with Raphael Moreau and Jose Becerril, representatives from the market research firm Euromonitor International, about future trends in the international tobacco industry. Both representatives believe that the growth of disposable e-cigarettes brings many issues, and more regulatory policies will emerge in the future, along with a continuous emergence of eco-friendly products in the market.

At this Dortmund Tobacco Exhibition, Euromonitor not only set up a booth but also conducted a series of presentations exploring the current regulatory environment of the tobacco industry and new trends in the cannabis market. Among them, the development expectations for the European market and next-generation tobacco products (NGP) were discussed.
Raphael believes that the growth of disposable e-cigarettes brings many issues, and more related regulations will emerge to prevent underage use of e-cigarettes.
“We foresee that Europe will witness significant growth in disposable e-cigarettes in the short term, but this also raises sustainability issues,” Raphael said.
He added, “We expect that in the coming years, more legislation regarding e-cigarette marketing restrictions and clearer tax policies will be introduced. The goal is to prevent young people from trying these e-cigarette products and address the environmental issues posed by disposable e-cigarettes.”
Under future new regulatory laws, how will e-cigarette companies adapt to regulations and continue to develop? Jose believes that manufacturers need to seek new technological solutions.
As the environmental impact of disposable e-cigarette products becomes increasingly evident, manufacturers are beginning to seek new solutions and more eco-friendly materials for e-cigarette production. “In the next 5 to 10 years, we expect to see new products that are more eco-friendly and contain less plastic and metal components. Additionally, we will witness a market shift towards rechargeable disposable e-cigarette products,” Jose said.
Will other countries follow Europe's regulations? Jose pointed out that the development speed and legislative frameworks vary across regions, and mimicking Europe's approach is a lengthy process. “In some respects, we foresee that other countries or regions may attempt to emulate some measures from Europe, but this will take time and depend on the specific circumstances and legislative environments of each country,” he said.
