Jersey in the UK May Ban Sales of Disposable Vapes
Two ministers in Jersey, UK, have expressed their desire to take measures to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes on the island. They stated that this initiative is being considered for both environmental and health reasons.
According to a report from the BBC, the two ministers in Jersey have expressed their desire to take measures to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes on the island. They stated that this initiative is being considered for both environmental and health reasons.
Ministers Tom Binet and Jonathan Renouf indicated that the proposed ban will be discussed with stakeholders.
This ban could be implemented by expanding the single-use plastics legislation, which prohibits the distribution of single-use plastics and paper bags on the island, and includes provisions for adding other items.
The two ministers stated in a joint statement that disposable e-cigarettes are often thrown into regular trash, leading to materials being destroyed rather than reused.
The statement pointed out that e-cigarettes consist of plastic, glass, cardboard or metal casings, heating elements (coils), microprocessors, lithium-ion batteries, and liquid containers. Although each component can be recycled, it is a time-consuming and manual process, and if not handled properly, e-cigarettes can cause fires in garbage trucks or energy recovery facilities.
