French Prime Minister announces ban on disposable vapes, but effective date not yet disclosed
In an interview on September 3, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced plans to ban the sale of disposable vaping devices.
According to a breaking report from French media outlet RTL, during an interview on September 3, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced plans to ban the sale of disposable vaping devices. As early as last May, former Health Minister François Braun had already expressed support for banning such products.
Elisabeth Borne said the measure will be included in the upcoming national anti-smoking plan.
Elisabeth Borne did not disclose when the ban will take effect. According to previous reports, French lawmakers submitted a bill on July 12 to ban e-cigarettes, with plans to pass the law by the end of this year.
According to data from the Anti-Tobacco Alliance, disposable vaping products are much cheaper than cigarettes (up to 10 euros less), and 13% of teenagers aged 13 to 16 have already tried disposable vapes. Elisabeth Borne believes these products encourage bad habits among young people: “They create bad habits for young people. That is how they start down the path to smoking.”
