UK Shop Owner Arrested for Selling E-Cigarettes and Beer to Minors
Recently, a shop owner in Wolverhampton, UK, was arrested by the trading standards office for selling beer and e-cigarettes to minors under 18 years old and is currently facing a license review. The incident arose after the trading standards department received numerous complaints accusing a store named "Family Shop" of selling age-restricted products, including e-cigarettes and alcohol, to minors.

Previously, trading standards officials tested retailers across Wolverhampton to see if they conducted necessary age verification checks, and "Family Shop" was included in the minor purchase test.
Trading standards officer Gurdip Gill stated, "At that time, two 17-year-old authorized volunteers representing the city council walked into the store and easily purchased a 4000-puff e-cigarette and two cans of fruit-flavored beer without any obstruction."
"The total price of these products was £15.50, but when the two underage volunteers told the staff they only had £15, the staff accepted £15 from them—without attempting to verify their ages or asking for any form of identification. A trading standards officer present in the store witnessed the transaction."
"After leaving the store, the two volunteers handed the purchased e-cigarette and beer to the trading standards officer, who placed them in an evidence bag and sealed it. That day, the volunteers were refused purchases of age-restricted products in other stores," he added.
