Philip Morris South Africa (PMSA) says South Africa’s Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill is unreasonable.
【Two Supremes Express】According to South African media outlet IOL on August 30, South Africa’s Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill will be open for public comment until September 4. The bill includes stricter rules on the sale and advertising of traditional tobacco products, as well as new regulations on the sale and advertising of e-cigarettes.
The proposals include standardized cigarette packaging, ending sales through vending machines, and banning smoking in all indoor public places and certain outdoor areas.
However, Philip Morris South Africa (PMSA) said the bill is unreasonable. The company believes South Africa’s new tobacco law should distinguish between cigarettes and smoke-free alternatives, helping people make informed choices rather than simply restricting smoking, and said its current approach “lacks nuance and a scientific basis.”
