Thailand may consider legalizing and taxing e-cigarettes
Recently, the chairman of the Thai Tobacco Management Board expressed hope that all parties could address the issue of rampant illegal e-cigarettes by legalizing them. Currently, all e-cigarettes in Thailand are illegal and untaxed, preventing the country from generating more fiscal revenue.
It is understood that there is a large number of untaxed illegal e-cigarettes available in the Thai market, which can be easily purchased. Therefore, he suggested that relevant departments resolve this issue as soon as possible.
He also stated, "E-cigarettes are an illegal product, but people will use them regardless. Since that is the case, we should bring illegal products underground to the surface, which can increase tax revenue and facilitate regulation. This requires a balance between national revenue and public health."
