Thailand Blocks 76 Websites Selling E-Cigarettes

Key point: Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Royal Thai Police have jointly blocked 76 websites involved in online e-cigarette sales.
Recently, the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Thai Police Department jointly acted to block 76 websites selling e-cigarettes.

On August 13, Mr. Wetang Puangsub, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, stated that there are many illegal activities among e-cigarette sellers or service providers in Thailand, such as violations of the Consumer Protection Act. These can result in up to three years of imprisonment or fines not exceeding 600,000 Thai Baht (approximately 123,600 RMB), or both.
Wetang Puangsub mentioned that these actions also violate many other Thai laws, such as the importation of e-cigarettes, which is a criminal act. According to a 2014 announcement from the Ministry of Commerce, importing e-cigarettes into Thailand is prohibited, and violators can face up to ten years of imprisonment or fines five times the product price, or both.
Additionally, under Thailand's Tobacco Products Control Act, e-cigarettes are classified as tobacco products, and using e-cigarettes in non-smoking areas is illegal, subject to fines of up to 5,000 Thai Baht (approximately 1,030.57 RMB).
