Welsh Vape Shop Calls for Sales Licensing System to Clean Up the Market
A vape shop in Aberdare, Wales, has launched a petition calling for all vape users in Wales to support their action to prevent some unscrupulous individuals from tarnishing the reputation of the Welsh vape industry. The shop, named "Vape Escape," is requesting vape users to sign their petition urging the Welsh Parliament (The Senedd) to introduce a sales licensing system for electronic cigarettes. The shop believes this is the only way to drive out poor-quality retailers and ensure that electronic cigarettes do not fall into the hands of minors.
The petition states:
"The lack of training and licensing can lead to inappropriate products and illegal devices being sold, which can be dangerous and hinder people's success in quitting smoking. Currently, there are also counterfeit and illegal vape products on the market that do not comply with UK regulations, posing a threat to public health. By authorizing licensed retailers to sell vape products, as they purchase directly from licensed suppliers, the products will not be counterfeit or sourced cheaply from the black market for quick profits."
"We expect vape products to be sold by trained, licensed retailers who specialize in vape products. These employees need to have a comprehensive understanding of electronic cigarettes, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and all related knowledge to work with the public and ensure higher success rates in quitting smoking."
"Currently, vape shops are already complying with and meeting trade standards. Many employees have also obtained qualifications from the NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training) to ensure they can provide effective advice on NRT."
"Parents are unhappy with certain retailers selling vape products to minors under 18. This hinders the vape industry's progress towards a smoke-free Wales. Electronic cigarettes are a bridge from smoking to quitting and should not be introduced to them at such a young age."
"Given the high success rate of the vape industry in helping people quit smoking, the industry needs recognition and the introduction of a licensing system to ensure safety and responsible sales of vape products."
The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) is also currently pressuring Parliament to establish a similar licensing system.
This petition may indicate that the vape sales industry in the UK and Wales will face stricter regulations and oversight in the future. For those in the Chinese vape industry, this trend is worth noting as it may impact international market regulations and trade policies.
