On the ground: nearly 80 companies and hundreds of brands compete for the Indonesian market

Key point: In recent days, many Chinese companies have been heading to Indonesia. With only a one-hour time difference and relatively convenient visa-on-arrival policies, the market is opening up in August.

Recently, many Chinese companies have been heading to Indonesia. The time difference is minimal, just one hour, and the visa-on-arrival process is relatively convenient.

It is reported that the Indonesian market is opening up in August, with a grand event called "The Vape Show Jakarta 2023" scheduled for August 3-5. The CVIC team has also specially traveled to gather on-site information for everyone’s reference.

This event can be seen as the beginning of the second half of the year, with many Chinese companies starting to expand into the global market from Indonesia. Brands that have performed well in the Middle East, such as TUGBOAT and Yuoto, are also participating in the Indonesian event, along with one of Europe’s top disposable brands, ELUX.

On-site, there was a busy atmosphere as companies set up their booths. Some companies had relatively large exhibition spaces. At the entrance, you could see TUGBOAT and FRESOR.

Many Chinese companies are participating, no less than 60.

The venue is not large, but it shows the enthusiasm for market participation.

The venue is roughly divided into two areas, one with over 40 companies and the other with more than 30, totaling over a hundred brands.

According to on-site information, this Indonesian exhibition has around 70 participating companies (approximately 79), attracting a large number of Chinese companies such as Yuoto, OXVA, HQD, ELUX, LANAVAPE, AAOK, RELX, MR FOG, LAMI, ESMOO, MOTI, aiir, ganabar, TUGBOAT, suorin, polobolo, Freeton, Fumot, Vapesoul, ABUFAN, FRESOR (the brand of Zhuoli Neng), bardinal, Smiler vape, ISOK, Kang'er, and other companies.

Among them, HQD, RELX, LANAVAPE, ELUX, KARDINAL, PUFF, and other companies had relatively large booths.

On-site, apart from the majority of electronic cigarette brands, there were also many e-liquid companies, OEM companies, and logistics companies. This can be seen as a market with a relatively complete supply chain, and many companies do not want to miss out.

CVIC VAPE will launch in Indonesia.

The CVIC team has arrived in Indonesia, indicating that they will bring the CVIC VAPE to the Indonesian market.

Notably, the first issue of the direct-to-Indonesian channel merchant guide, the Indonesian version of CVIC VAPE, will officially be released at this Indonesian exhibition. This special edition gathers excellent supply chain resources from China and will serve as the best selection guide for Indonesian channel merchants.

Indonesia is also growing local brands.

Unlike some regions, Indonesia has a strong awareness of developing local brands. Generally, when Chinese companies expand into the Indonesian market, it is best to collaborate with local partners to facilitate operations.

This time, a special area for local Indonesian brands was also set up at the venue, featuring brands like VAPE WORLD, vapouround, JUES, REFRE5H.

Some of these companies have also opened several chain stores locally. Additionally, some European and American brands participated, such as IVG.

04.

Pod systems and open systems are mainstream, while disposables are exploring the market.

The entrance was quite grand, with many booths visible. Most of the devices brought were primarily pod systems.

RELX brought both pod systems and e-liquids.

For example, MOTI showcased the MOTI POP, a colorful disposable design resembling a popsicle, which is wide but very thin, with a relatively high puff count.

Some companies also brought disposables, with puff counts ranging from 600 to 2500.

On-site, Hanqingda's other brand ISOK also made an appearance, showcasing a 600 puff model.

ELUX also brought disposables and pod systems.

Overall, there is a diverse range of open systems, pod systems, and disposable brands. In the Indonesian market, the core preference remains for refillable open pod systems. Thus, many brands have brought suitable pod systems for the market. For example, Suorin has introduced many new pod systems, and several brands have also brought disposables.

In general, the Indonesian market has a diverse range of participating companies, but it was noted that the scale of this Indonesian event was not very large, and some major global brands did not participate.

05.

Localization in Indonesia places great emphasis on collaboration.

Indonesia is a highly protective market, where disposables currently hold a small share and are still growing. However, due to heavy taxes on closed systems, the cost-effectiveness of disposables is not yet prominent, and open systems dominate the market! To successfully penetrate the Indonesian market, relationships are paramount, followed by products.

Moreover, in a country with nearly 300 million people and over 70 million smokers, the high encouragement of electronic cigarette commercialization is precisely what makes the market attractive and should not be missed!

Finally, to open up new customer acquisition channels, targeting local buyers, distributors, and agents, the Indonesian version of CVIC VAPE will officially launch at this Indonesian exhibition and will be distributed throughout Jakarta and other regions, bringing more frontline market information. Stay tuned!
