Recently, a research team from Sun Yat-sen University published a review paper in Chinese Health Education, indicating that the types and quantities of toxic substances produced by e-cigarettes are fewer than those from traditional cigarettes, and the harm to the respiratory system is less than that of traditional cigarettes.
The researchers reviewed 57 articles from 2007 to the present and found that the formaldehyde released from e-cigarette aerosol is significantly lower than that from cigarettes. For users who smoke 20 combustible cigarettes daily, switching to e-cigarettes can reduce formaldehyde exposure by 79.0% to 96.8%. After switching from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes, smokers' exposure to harmful substances significantly decreases, in some cases reaching levels consistent with quitting smoking.
