More than 200 e-cigarette manufacturers in the U.S. receive warning letters

According to news on July 9, the U.S. FDA recently released a report stating that, as has been mentioned many times before, the CTP will not stand by while manufacturers, retailers, or distributors sell illegal products, especially products known to appeal to young people. From January 2021 to June 2023, the CTP issued more than 570 warning letters and took multiple enforcement actions, including filing 13 civil monetary penalty complaints and seeking six injunctions through the Department of Justice (DOJ) against companies selling illegal e-cigarette products. In recent weeks, the center has moved quickly to curb the sale of illegal disposable e-cigarette products that appeal to youth. These actions include issuing warning letters to two companies responsible for manufacturing, distributing, and importing Esco Bars and Breeze products, as well as sending warning letters to more than 200 retailers illegally selling various types of PUFF, Hyde, Elf Bar, and Esco Bars products. All of these actions are part of the center’s ongoing compliance and enforcement efforts, demonstrating its firm commitment to enforcing the law across the entire supply chain—from manufacturers to retailers.

It also noted that the center has reviewed more than 26 million tobacco product applications over the past three years and has made significant progress, completing reviews of 99% of the applications. As part of these reviews, the CTP has authorized 23 tobacco-flavored e-cigarette products and devices, which are currently the only e-cigarette products that may be legally marketed or distributed.
