Cook County, Illinois’ largest county, bans flavored e-cigarette products, including Chicago
The Cook County Board in Illinois, USA, has approved a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products in suburban Cook County. Cook County is the largest county in Illinois and includes 134 municipalities, with Chicago being the best known.
According to Audacy, the sales ban on flavored tobacco products was passed unanimously and applies to all e-cigarette products, including menthol.
Under the ordinance, according to reports, any of the 42 licensed tobacco retailers in unincorporated Cook County could face a $250 fine the first time they are found selling flavored e-cigarettes.
"Our legal authority applies only to unincorporated Cook County. Businesses located in unincorporated Cook County will be affected," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. "When we enact this kind of legislation, that is where it applies. Local municipalities can create their own legislation if they wish."
