Today, May 23 - The FDA's tobacco and nicotine products regulatory unit has hired a Senior Advisor on Health Equity for the first time, according to a foreign news release today.

The Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) announced that Charlene Le FAUVe will fill the position.

"Beginning today, she will join the CTP senior leadership team within the Center's Office of the Director," A press release stated. "Le Fauve is a behavioral scientist and addiction researcher with 25 years of federal experience related to health equity and health disparities research. She has dedicated her career to advancing health equity and the health of underserved and underrepresented populations through research and studying workforce development."

Most recently, Le Fauve served as senior advisor to the chief scientific workforce diversity officer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In this role, she introduced a national audience to NIH's role in science workforce diversity and health equity research, according to a press release.

Prior to her NIH role, Le Fauve held a variety of leadership positions, such as associate director of disparities research and global mental health at the National Institute of Mental Health, as well as senior policy coordinator and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services team leader for the Department of Health and Human Services.

"Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) are core values of the CTP, and we are working to ensure that the full scope of the Center's work reflects these principles. In this new position, the first of its kind at any FDA center, Dr. Le Fauve will work with all offices in the CTP to ensure that health equity is integrated into the center's programmatic plans and priorities." She will also serve as the CTP's primary representative at a variety of events that promote and contribute to the reduction of tobacco-related health disparities, including during external meetings, conferences, and presentations," the press release states."
