Weishi County, Henan Launches Joint Enforcement Against E-Cigarette Sales to Minors

Key point: To further strengthen e-cigarette market supervision, protect minors from e-cigarette harm, and safeguard the physical and mental health of young people, Weishi County in Henan has recently carried out a joint rectification campaign.

To further strengthen the regulation of the e-cigarette market and protect minors from the harm of e-cigarettes, the Weishi County Market Supervision Administration in Henan Province, led by Secretary and Director Ma Yingli, has recently launched a special rectification campaign in collaboration with the county's Tobacco Monopoly Bureau targeting e-cigarette specialty stores and areas around schools.

Law enforcement personnel conducted inspections of e-cigarette sales locations and cultural supply stores, supermarkets, and bookstores around campuses, focusing on whether there were unlicensed operations, whether tobacco retail licenses were obtained, whether warning signs were posted, whether there were sales of e-cigarettes to minors, and whether false advertising for e-cigarettes was present.

During the inspection, law enforcement personnel used various methods to educate businesses about the "Minor Protection Law of the People's Republic of China," especially the dangers of e-cigarettes to minors; actively guiding and educating e-cigarette operators to enhance their awareness of protecting minors, strictly implementing warning sign settings and ID verification regulations, and establishing e-cigarette sales records to proactively refuse sales to minors.

Since the launch of this special action, a total of 108 law enforcement personnel have been dispatched, inspecting 34 businesses around campuses and 6 e-cigarette specialty stores. During the inspections, it was found that a certain store near the campus was selling e-cigarettes, and law enforcement personnel confiscated 1 e-cigarette and initiated an investigation in accordance with the law.
