According to the Associated Press, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a decree on May 31 that prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes.
Assistant Health Minister Hugo López Gatell harshly criticized the industry's claim that e-cigarettes are safer than smoking, calling it a “big lie.”

Mexico is actively legislating to ban vaping products. Starting in October 2022, the import of e-cigarette devices will be prohibited. Prior to this, lawmakers used consumer protection and other laws to block sales.
Despite the latest decree, many Mexicans still illegally import or purchase e-cigarette cartridges or liquids.
According to government data, at least 5 million Mexicans have tried e-cigarettes at least once.
