Vapelustion Box Mod Review: Small vaping devices have become mainstream in the e-cigarette industry this year, with large cloud-producing products being few and far between. With the end of the year being particularly busy, I haven't written a review in a long time. However, I recently got my hands on a large cloud-producing device that really impressed me, so today I want to share this Vapelustion Box Mod with you!
1. Packaging
The exterior is a rectangular pull-out paper box, with the word "般若" (Buddha) written in Japanese in the center, and the main image at the bottom featuring a Ukiyo-e style depiction of Buddha. The brand logo is in the top left corner, and the brand name "Vapelustion" is right below it. One question that has always puzzled me is why the Japanese female ghost, "般若," is so popular in the e-cigarette community? However, I do quite like this design.
Opening the packaging, the main color is black, paired with gold lettering, giving it a somewhat business-like style with a strong sense of technology, contrasting sharply with the flashy exterior. It's clear that a lot of effort went into the packaging design, highlighting the theme on the surface while showcasing modern technological elements in the interior. The inner packaging includes a replaceable panel (yes, you read that right, the main unit comes with two additional panels with different designs, which is quite generous, considering some brands charge separately for panel replacements at a hefty price). In the middle is the main unit, and on the right is a traditional Android data cable (why not use Type-C? That would feel more high-tech!). The inner lining is made of double-layer EVA material, which protects the internal items well.
Three different style panels can be mixed and matched. Personally, I prefer the first two; the third panel feels too cheap. The reason is that you can easily find the "Japanese wave" pattern online, which is the background of the third panel, and you can download it for free. So, I have to give that panel a low rating.
On top of the main unit is a black envelope containing a bilingual manual in Chinese and English, with a white background and red text, providing a quick ten-minute introduction. Flipping through it, the language is humorous and clear, and I gradually feel that this might not just be a commercial device, as it has started to exude a playful vibe.
3. Build Quality and Features
The main body of the box is likely made of zinc alloy, which is a widely used material in all e-cigarette boxes. The black finish has a strong matte feel, enhancing the grip while ensuring aesthetics. The buttons appear to be aluminum alloy with a black plating, which I really like! The device has three buttons, simple yet elegant with a retro vibe, and the buttons have a moderate softness and a strong rebound.
Opening the battery cover reveals a striking red battery compartment, made of plastic with excellent craftsmanship and no burrs. The black and red combination looks really nice! Most manufacturers don't put much thought into the internal battery compartment, but this device clearly shows its identity as a player product (just my guess).
The 510 electrode plate is well-made, with an anti-lock slot, and the bottom of the main unit has eight large ventilation holes.
The main unit's screen has a protective film on it, which, while not very aesthetic, protects the screen from scratches. Nice touch!
The panel material is also plastic, with a double-sided sticker design, a matte texture, and raised patterns (the details are really well done, with patterns inside and out, and since it's a plastic sticker, there's no worry about peeling or fading). The magnets are large and securely embedded (this is important; I really don't want to deal with sticking magnets).
In terms of functionality, it's quite simple, and I won't elaborate too much (is it because I'm lazy? Of course... okay, yes!). There are two modes: power and temperature control. Since I hardly use temperature control, I won't introduce that. In power mode, it can reach up to 230W with dual 18650 batteries, which is great! Why do I say it's great? Because the chip is original (just my guess; why am I so good at guessing? I'll explain later). It has low voltage protection, short circuit protection, and overheat protection, all included. Pressing the fire button three times locks the device, and the output in power mode can be set to soft, standard, or powerful. There are some other features I won't mention, and I'll explain the reasons later!
4. User Experience and Issues
Pros: 1. Explosive power; the last box that gave me this feeling was a quick draw. Of course, the explosion and firing speed of this device are somewhat less than that of a quick draw, but Voopoo has acquired Woody, so their strength is evident. However, after using it for a while, the experience with this device has been quite good, considering I usually don't like using boxes unless they are really good! (And stylish)
2. Excellent hardware craftsmanship
3. Strong compatibility
Whether paired with a tank or a dripper, it looks good, but I personally recommend pairing it with black, gold, or colorful atomizers.
Cons: 1. The material of the simple style panel feels too cheap
2. The panel has a slight wobble
3. The chip is not very stable, which is a significant issue. The manual states that it can detect new atomizers and provide prompts, but during my use, it only prompted once when I first powered it on.
It cannot be turned off; the manual says to press the fire button five times to turn it off, but in reality, it cannot be turned off! However, it is said that this is because a batch of custom versions for foreign markets had the shutdown function removed at the request of foreign customers (I can't understand the foreign mindset). If this is true, I feel a bit sad; the decline of the large cloud market has led to this trivial issue. Thinking about this, I can only softly say: the large cloud market is not dead, just gradually fading away. If a new batch is released in the future, I suggest they adjust the chip properly.
Regardless, I still stubbornly believe that this device is excellent because it excels in hardware craftsmanship, and the attention to detail is commendable. More importantly, my intuition tells me that Vapelustion is creating products with a player's mindset. After all, this is their first product, and achieving this level is no easy feat. We should continue to support domestic brands!
