SMOK TFV12 RBA Atomizer Review
As the “factory” that turns e-liquid into vapor, an atomizer’s performance directly affects the final vaping experience. Even if you spend heavily on a powerful high-wattage mod, only a well-designed, highly efficient atomizer can truly unleash the device
As a manufacturing factory for transforming smoke oil into vapor form, the performance of the atomizer directly affects the final form of smoke. Even if you spend a lot of money to equip a high-power and powerful mainframe, as an atomization terminal, only a nebulizer with scientific structure and outstanding performance can truly realize the potential of the mainframe, and may even account for more than half of the entire system.
Among the excellent atomizers, the TFV8 atomizer family launched in 2016 is an outstanding representative of them. However, as the world's first-line e-cigarette designer and producer, Shenzhen Avips did not stop there, but launched the Smoke King TFV12 on this basis. At first glance, the appearance seems to be consistent with the TFV8. If you really hold it in your hand, you will definitely not confuse the TFV12 with the TFV8, because the TFV12 looks much more domineering and is bigger than the entire TFV8 series. At first glance, the structure seems to be consistent with the TFV8 series, with the top of the same iconic rotating upper cover filled with oil. Then the question arises. Is it necessary to push out a giant with just a magnified size with the same structure? So what is the purpose of this thicker and longer TFV12? Please study it carefully with equa. [Packaging Appearance] The retail version received this time is completely packaged. It is a small box covered with a plastic film when received to ensure that the product received is complete and brand new. The packaging color matching has been slightly adjusted from the black-orange color of the TFV8 series to the black-red color matching. The front is embossed with a colored real picture of the product. The gold physical picture represents that the content is also gold. This is a major feature of SMOK's differentiated packaging. The volcanic eruption picture on the front background and the slogan Cloud Beast King below remind them of their strong performance. To mention a detail here, it is not clear whether the official name of this product is TFV12? Or is it TFV12 RBA? Because according to SMOK's habits, series products are often developed, this suffix should not be added at will, so equa adopts the latter. An English product introduction and packaging list are printed on the back, and an anti-counterfeiting inquiry code is located below. On the left side is the manufacturer information and barcode. The printing on the right side responds to the RBA logo on the front, and 2 RBAs are distributed in the package. Pushing open the outer paper shell, the interior is a traditional SMOK black box with unchanging upper and lower buttons. After opening, it can be seen that the contents are inlaid and fixed in the foam material. Remove all packaging, and the list of items obtained is: 1 set of TFV12RBA atomizer (pre-installed with V12-RBA), 1 additional V12-RBA-T, 1 spare glass oil bin, 2 anti-collision silicone rings, 1 pack of spare leak-proof rubber rings, 3 spare electrode screws, 1 internal hexagonal screw, and 1 warning card instructions each.
[Parameter measurement and TFV series appearance comparison]
Remove the TFV12 from the packaging. This atomizer has already been played with at the e-cigarette exhibition in April, but now I still feel domineering when I receive it. The one I received this time is a gold version. The workmanship continues the fine and familiar appearance of the TFV8 series, but it has become much larger.
The measured height of the TFV12 is 70mm, the diameter is 27mm, and the weight reaches 91 grams. Its measurements have basically nothing to do with portability.
Due to the domineering diameter of 27mm, its capacity has also been enhanced. equa used a 5ml syringe to aspirate 5ml and 2ml of tobacco oil in two separate injections. As a result, after the first syringe was filled, the second syringe stopped at 0.8ml, which shows that the capacity of this TFV12 has reached 6.2ml. It seems that the 6ml capacity given by the official is still reserved.
Putting the TFV series at hand together for a comparison, you can see that the TFV12 is quite domineering. In addition to its height, its diameter of 27mm is enough to crush the previous production. The TFV8 series here is still short of a TFV8. The strange thing is that after SMOK launched this atomizer, the appearance rate was very low. On the contrary, the TFV8 Baby (Alien, AL85, QBOX, etc. sets) and TFV8 Big Baby (T-PRIV, G320, G2/4, Stick V8 and other sets) have been repeatedly exposed. Equa only had one TFV8 on hand, but it didn't know where it was stuffed during the evaluation. I searched the study room and couldn't find it.
[Detailed explanation of structure]
From the overall appearance, it seems that the structure of the TFV12 is consistent with that of the TFV8 series, and it also inherits the fine workmanship tradition of the TFV8 series.
Looking at the disassembly, sure enough, although the volume has been enlarged, the components are still familiar with the TFV8 structure, and the main body can be roughly disassembled into the 5 pieces shown in the figure below.
Although we are old friends, TFV12 is still somewhat different. Spend some time introducing each component in order.
First of all, the drip nozzle still retains the TFV8 series cylindrical straight tube drip nozzle, which can easily adapt to large smoke. It is a non-standard 510 drip nozzle.
This drip nozzle (left in the picture below) is not only the same in shape, but in fact, it is exactly the same as the drip nozzles of TFV8 and TFV8 Big Baby (right in the picture below) and can be replaced and used for interoperability. This is the only component that has no size change.
The upper cover has an all-steel structure with very fine workmanship, taking into account the three major functions of the drip nozzle seat, the fuel inlet and the fixed frame.
Unscrew the upper cover in the direction indicated by the arrow, so that oil can be easily added from the oil filling hole on one side of the upper edge.
The threads at the bottom of the upper cover are used to connect the atomizing core and the entire atomizer. Since this model is TFV12RBA, its threaded opening is much larger in order to connect with the RBA, reaching a diameter of 20mm, almost reaching the outer diameter.
Looking at it from another angle, the top chimney of the TFV12 RBA is quite different.
As the diameter becomes thicker, the glass oil bin has also become 27 x 25.3 x 1.6mm, expanding in terms of diameter and height.
The atomizing core is also very distinctive. In my impression, this is the first time that SMOK's atomizer set is equipped with two RBA atomizing cores. From this point, it can also be seen that the TFV12 RBA is positioned to focus on large smoke operation, which will be detailed separately later.
The base is double-open air intake, and the air intake slot is very large to meet the air intake needs.
There is a large air chamber inside. In addition to air exchange, it also has a certain oil receiving effect. Compared with the fine workmanship of the whole body, this series of electrodes is what equa has always complained about, which looks very TFV.
At the end of the structure, the reminder is that when installing, it is recommended to install the atomizing core on the base first, and the glass oil chamber on the upper cover. After that, the entire atomizer is rotated and installed, so that it is not easy to break the glass in a hurry or use uneven force. Break glass.
[RBA Detailed Explanation]
RBA (ReBuildable Atomizer) is a standard feature for enthusiasts who like crazy smoke, so that some friends are no longer interested in learning about atomizers without RBA. This is taken to the extreme in the TFV12 BRA kit, providing RBA of two structures at one time.
From the front, in addition to different diameters and thicknesses, the two RBA are also slightly different in heights. However, since only the electrode heights are slightly different, they have no effect on the fixation of the entire atomizer.
From the top view, you can see that the heating wire has been preset at the factory and the Clapton fancy coil structure. The number of standard coils between the two is different. The V12-RBA on the left is designed with a double engine, while the V12-RBA-T on the right is designed with a Triple engine, so there is a T behind it. Of course, this T may also mean Turbo, which represents a more powerful output. Of course, with such a large space, it would not be a problem even if the V12-RBA made 8 rounds. Equa once made 8 rounds in the RBA of TFV8 Baby, so the above number of coils is only a standard value.

When the upper cover is unscrewed, the structural difference between the two is also quite big.
The V12-RBA on the left is a dual upright electrode column design, which is relatively traditional and the most common RBA structure. The V12-RBA-T on the right side is more special. It elevates the base, which is equivalent to retracting the electrode column into the base, so that the free space can accommodate more coils. Therefore, the position of the electrode screws in this structure is quite special, especially the positive pole is quite hidden. equa just took it and thought that the positive pole was just plugged in. As a result, the coil was pulled out for a long time and failed to pull it out. After careful observation, it was discovered that there were still 3 screws hidden on the inside of the positive pole cap.
In terms of air intake, the V12-RBA on the left side is a more traditional double bottom air intake. Due to the overall appearance of the atomizer, its air intake hole can be opened very large. The air intake of the V12-RBA-T on the right side has 2 channels. In addition to the small hole below each coil position, the open opening of the entire middle part is also an air intake hole, so this horizontal structure also has a big effect. It greatly increases the air intake area.
Due to the different structures of the two RBA, the coil shapes are completely different, and the screws used are 4 and 6 respectively.
In order to completely evaluate the DIY function, equa did not use the distributed finished wire, but wound the heating wire itself, using A1, 0.51mm diameter, 3.5mm coil diameter, and 8 close windings. Speaking of the diameter of the lower coil here, it is usually not possible to make such a large coil. However, since the RBA oil guide holes of TFV12 are very large, the amount of cotton must be sufficient, otherwise oil will easily leak. Only after testing a cotton quantity of 3.5mm will be relatively secure.
Put the coil on the RBA. In comparison, the V12-RBA-T of the third coil on the right side is easier to fix and form. In operation, insert the negative pole into the fixing hole first and compare the height to see how high it needs to be. Cut the negative pole (the short end) to a suitable length so that the coil can be placed just at the right height (without touching the base or cover), then use a screw winding rod to stretch into the coil and twist it to make the coil parallel to the edge. After that, tighten the positive screw. The operation of the left double electrode column will not be described in detail. The main thing is to adjust the length and angle of the pins so that the two sides are averaged. You need some patience. This operation is important but very important. If the balance of the coil is not adjusted well, it will take a lot of time for later wire burning.
Screw them to the base respectively, put on the box and burn the wire, and pay attention to ensure that the coils heat up and turn red simultaneously, otherwise the meaning of multiple coils will be lost (if one turns red first and the other turns red later, there is only one coil in the 2 - 3 seconds of lighting a cigarette. Work).
After that, cotton was added. As mentioned above, the oil guide port is very large, so the amount of cotton must be sufficient. The 3.5mm coil diameter used by equa must be given the following amount of cotton to ensure that the oil guide hole is blocked.
Sanfa also needs a large amount of cotton to ensure no oil leaks.
To moisten tobacco oil well, because the RBA is large enough and the amount of cotton is large, the amount of moisten oil is much larger than that of ordinary RTA, and basically there is not much difference from the more violent RDA.
After trial burning, the smoke from 2 cores was already quite good.
The smoke from the core 3 is even louder and is even sprayed out from the lower air intake hole.
[Experience]
Equa compared TFV12 with the representative oil drip, Veil 3.0, and found that the two are simply not of the same size. In fact, the RBA of TFV12 is almost as big as a veil.
Therefore, although it has an oil-storage RTA atomizer structure, in fact, the smoke performance of the TFV12 has little to do with the RTA. When the intake air is adjusted to the maximum, it is turned on at 100W, and the DIY three-core V12-RBA-T (0.31) is used to experience its functions, equa has completely forgotten that it is an RTA, which is completely the taste of an oil-dripping RDA. Afraid that the performance of the 3-core was too prominent, I switched on to a DIY 2-core V12-RBA (0.43) to try it out, and found that it still had the taste of RDA, except that the amount of smoke and the intake were different.
The taste of V12-RBA and V12-RBA-T are also different. The three-core V12-RBA-T has a more empty taste, while the two-core V12-RBA has a tighter intake. Even if the intake of the three-core V12-RBA-T is only turned on 1/3, it is almost equivalent to the effect of the two-core V12-RBA fully opened. Therefore, the taste of the three-core V12-RBA-T is more inclined to the appearance of empty smoke, and it is not easy to dry your mouth when using it to practice smoke for performances; The 2-core V12-RBA is slightly biased towards the taste, which is equivalent to the RDA effect of dripping oil, especially when the intake air is placed below half open.
In terms of fuel consumption, such as the previous heating wire parameters, its fuel consumption is basically not related to RTA. There is RDA smoke amount, and natural fuel consumption is also based on RDA.
[Summary]
From the above reviews, it is not difficult for smokers to find out the true purpose of this TFV12: Vapor's preferred equipment for playing with large smoke has always been the oil-dripping RDA atomizer, but when making large smoke, refueling has to be done every once in a while. It has become a headache, and conventional RDTA (Drip Storage Atomizers) either have insufficient taste, or the oil storage volume is too small and unsafe, which cannot really solve this problem. However, TFV12 takes a different approach and solves this problem from the perspective of RTA. It not only has a very mature and safe oil storage structure verified by many Vapor, but also has a large oil storage capacity of 6.2ml. It can also bring excellent smoke. The smoke efficiency brought by bottom air intake is also enough to meet the taste needs, which is equivalent to subverting RDTA's new RTDA (droplet storage atomizer) concept. Based on the TFV8 series moving towards large smoke, it takes a bigger step forward, enough to meet the dual needs of Vapor! Such an RTDA work with excellent appearance, workmanship, smoke volume, oil storage volume, and DIY is believed to be recognized by smoke enthusiasts.
