However, whether the user experience lives up to these eight words needs to be evaluated in depth.
Packaging
In two words, it can be described as: simple. On the front, the brand name MOX is at the top, the device model EDGE is at the bottom, and in the middle is a product display, with a tobacco stick clearly indicating that it is a heated tobacco device. That tobacco stick is a highlight; without it, it might be mistaken for a flat-shaped oil-filled electronic cigarette product.
The upper half of the back is mostly blank, while the bottom contains some product information, such as product name, manufacturer information, warning messages, accessory list, barcode, etc. A small red dot represents the color of the device. This kit is red, but there are also gray, gold, silver, and black options available on the market.

Accessories
The kit's accessories exceeded my expectations, consisting of only one main device, one USB charging cable, one cleaning brush, and a user manual. Among the heated tobacco devices I have encountered, this one has the fewest accessories. I usually don't have high demands for kit accessories as long as they are sufficient. However, after seeing this product, I couldn't help but start to doubt whether it would be enough.
MOX EDGE Main Body
The main body is made of aluminum alloy, with anodized and sandblasted finishes, ensuring that the device is lightweight while maintaining a sense of quality and class. With dimensions of 115mm (length) * 22mm (width) * 15mm (thickness), it feels compact in hand, and at a weight of 40g, it is very easy to carry in a pocket, pants pocket, or backpack.
I particularly like its shape; most heated tobacco devices are either rod-shaped or box-shaped, which, while recognizable, tend to be monotonous. This flat tobacco shape adds a bit of personality.
The MOX EDGE device uses a needle-type heating method, with a working temperature of 300℃-350℃, which is higher than that of IQOS.
Tobacco Sticks
The tobacco sticks used in this review were also brought back by a friend from abroad, specifically Marlboro sticks, meaning they are compatible with IQOS sticks and most heated tobacco devices on the market.
Pre-usage Preparation
1. Remove the dust cap from the top of the main body and place it in the recess at the bottom of the device.
2. Quickly press the power button five times; the device will turn on and enter standby mode. At this point, insert the Marlboro stick into the main body.
3. Long press the power button for three seconds; the device will vibrate, and the indicator light will flash, indicating that it has entered pre-heating mode. Wait for the device to vibrate a second time and the indicator light to stay on, and then you can start using it. The indicator light is located on the power button, designed to be compact and detailed, primarily functional without taking up space.
There are both highlights and shortcomings in the pre-usage preparation process.
Highlights: Firstly, the design of the dust cap is quite unique; it effectively prevents dust from entering while also avoiding snagging on clothing or small objects when placed in a pocket. Secondly, the tactile feedback of the power button is excellent; each press provides a satisfying response.
Shortcomings: The size of the power button is a bit small, which may not be comfortable for people with thicker fingers.
Testing Experience
The parameters provided in the user manual state that one tobacco stick can be heated for 4 minutes or 15 puffs. During the last 20 seconds or the last 2 puffs, the device vibrates, and the indicator light turns red; after 20 seconds or 2 puffs, the indicator light goes out, and the device enters standby mode. In actual use, although I did not use a stopwatch, the experience was quite similar.
After trying several tobacco sticks, the overall experience was still quite good. The overall feel of the puffs was similar to IQOS, with the difference being that there was no roasted flavor from IQOS, and the throat irritation was stronger. The vapor production was also good; if you puff quickly, the vapor production may be slightly less, and the throat may feel dry.
During one test, my lips even stuck to the tobacco stick. This should be due to the heating needle; while it is easy to insert and remove the tobacco stick, the firmness could be improved. The needle-type heating ensures speed and uniformity, but the situation of the tobacco stick sticking to the lips, while rare, should be improved, as user experience is paramount.
I conducted a quick test simulating a scenario where I had two minutes during a high-speed train stop to finish a tobacco stick. The MOX EDGE performed well in this regard; including heating time, two minutes was sufficient.
In this rapid testing, the intervals between puffs were short. Some heated tobacco devices may experience a situation where the first puff has normal vapor production, but the second puff does not produce vapor due to heating rate issues. However, the MOX EDGE handled this situation quite well.
Cleaning
The device can be cleaned in two main ways.
One way is to rotate the tobacco stick once before removing it, effectively wiping the heating needle with the tobacco stick. This is an advantage of the heating needle; if it were a heating plate like that of IQOS, rotating the tobacco stick would damage it directly.
The other way is that this device has an automatic cleaning function. Users familiar with IQOS will notice that after finishing a tobacco stick, some oily residues may stick to the device, which can affect the flavor over time and cause flavor mixing when changing tobacco stick flavors. This product's self-cleaning function effectively solves this problem; heating eliminates residues and keeps the heating needle like new.
In standby mode, remove the dust cap and quickly press the power button three times to activate the automatic cleaning function. During this process, the indicator light will flash red and green alternately for 30 seconds, and after cleaning, it will automatically turn off. If you feel the cleaning is not thorough enough, you can use the included cleaning brush to gently wipe the heating needle.
This automatic cleaning function is not recommended to be performed after every tobacco stick; it can be done after every 20 sticks, which is about a small box of Marlboro tobacco sticks. This not only ensures flavor but also extends the device's lifespan.
Battery Life
It is said that one MOX EDGE device can continuously heat 15 tobacco sticks. I recreated a real smoking scenario and found that the number of heated tobacco sticks reached the reference standard and even exceeded it.
When charging, the breathing light flashes to indicate that it is charging, and the color of the indicator light changes according to the battery level. Once fully charged, the indicator light will stay green for one minute before automatically turning off. The detail of the indicator light changing color with the battery level is quite well done, as some people may be in a hurry to use it and want to know the charging progress when they can’t resist taking a puff at half charge.
Conclusion
This kit is not yet available in the domestic market, and according to my friend, the price is less than 450 RMB. This is considered low among heated tobacco devices. In actual use and operation, there are many highlights and surprises, but there is still significant room for improvement in the puffing experience, and there remains a considerable gap compared to the previously reviewed Firearm GS5.0!
