Cigarettes are one of the most consumed products globally. Despite their known harmful effects, many smokers find it hard to resist their allure. The birth of e-cigarettes, although the initial products did not provide particularly good experiences, pointed the way for smoking cessation and replacement products.
The replaceable pod small devices have emerged as a new generation of products built on the shoulders of giants, gaining popularity among many smokers due to their similarities to traditional cigarettes and convenience. Within less than a year, they have become favorites among many smokers. In 2018, various forms of small devices surged onto the market, with many innovative manufacturers bringing stunning designs. However, as a new generation of products, they also come with many issues such as airflow resistance, oil leakage, condensation at the mouthpiece, unresponsive switches, and high return rates, leading to mixed feelings among users and wasting money on trying different new products.
Today, I contacted a Chinese distributor to get a pen-style small device from a Japanese brand. Initially, I was skeptical about its performance due to previous experiences with some disposable energy sticks, but my impression changed after trying the product. Although its design style is similar to energy sticks, its internal structure is entirely that of a small device, which allows smokers to accept it better. This fogpro energy stick review aims to provide a reference for everyone!
The front design is very simple, featuring the brand logo, product concept image, and two pods (with a phrase that is hard to guess).
The back indicates product ingredients, usage instructions, and precautions, all in Japanese, which I cannot understand. I wonder if the official version will include Chinese instructions.
The packaging is a pull-out style, containing one device, one mint (mint ice) flavor, and one charger. Since it is an all-in-one product, there are no extra accessories included, and the instruction manual is moved to the back of the packaging. The pods are sealed with two silicone caps to prevent oil leakage. If you are a cleanliness fanatic or worried about dust, you can keep one silicone cap on while using it and put it back on after smoking to keep it hygienic.
Pod replacement pack (5 pieces)
Similar to the main device package, it indicates the nicotine content (I consulted the distributor, and it was a printing error by the manufacturer; the packaging will be modified in the next batch, so it should actually be 50mg, while the vitamin pod is marked as 0 nicotine). The flavors are represented by four colors: brown (tobacco), green (mint), blue (strong mint), and purple (blueberry). Regarding other flavors, the distributor mentioned that this is a newly developed product, so currently, only these four flavors have been shipped, but more new flavors will be released soon. It is known that watermelon ice and original tobacco flavors will be available soon, so interested friends are welcome to follow up.
The inner packaging is capsule-style, with high sealing aluminum foil, keeping it fully sealed after leaving the factory. Each pod also has two silicone caps for secondary sealing, so even if there is an oil leakage, you don't have to worry about dirtying the other pods.
Specifications & Parameters
Weight: 18g (approximately equal to 2 ballpoint pens)
Device size: 8.1cm, pod size: 3.75cm (the length of a ballpoint pen is 14.9cm, and the length of mainstream cigarettes is 8.4cm)
Material: aluminum alloy (surface is piano baking paint + silk screen), the material is quite durable; it fell from about 1 meter height onto concrete without any dents or paint peeling (actually, it was an accident, and I felt sad).
Battery capacity: 280mAh, relatively small in size; based on my personal smoking habit of one pack every three days, I charge it once every two days.
Pod capacity: 1.2ml, a standard storage amount; heavy smokers might barely use it for a whole day.
Main device
The overall pure white body with a simple logo design is very harmonious.
The airflow switch is very sensitive; it only requires a small amount of force to trigger it immediately. There is no delay in ignition, and vapor production is rapid.
The screw interface effectively prevents the pod from falling off during charging or carrying, allowing for safe use. #p#分页标题#e#
Charging uses a non-standard USB 2.0 interface, so if you smoke a lot, you need to carry the matching charger when going out.
The bottom light uses a single crystal light as a device status reminder. During use, it simulates the burning effect of smoking in a breathing light style. If the device's battery is low during use, the light will start to flash, while charging will keep the light on.
The airflow system consists of a dual bottom airflow system from both the device's bottom and the pod's bottom. Be careful not to put the silicone cap on the bottom, or it won't trigger the airflow switch.
Most of the basic operations are straightforward, so I won't elaborate further. The key point is the relatively rare threaded connection, which is a convenient design for daily use. Due to the airflow switch, most small devices require bottom airflow, and many small devices use magnetic or snap-fit internal structures. Bottom airflow often leads to condensation droplets forming at the electrode interface between the pod and the device due to temperature changes, making it inconvenient to wipe them off. Besides using tissue or cotton swabs, I haven't thought of a particularly good way to clean them. So, the highlight here is that because the connection is threaded, the electrode end won't be too recessed, making it easy to wipe clean without the hassle of searching for cotton swabs; just a tissue will do.
Pod
The overall material and shape are consistent with the device, with the letters “T” (representing nicotine salt) and “V” (representing vitamin E) used on top, with the letter colors corresponding to different flavors (refer to the pod replacement pack section for color details).
Strong oil leakage prevention; I replaced four pods in a week without any leakage issues.
The internal structure uses oil-absorbing sponge to absorb condensation, effectively isolating condensation liquid from entering the mouth. During a vigorous shake test, only a few droplets of water were expelled.
The sponge also simulates part of the cigarette filter effect, making the flavor experience more unique.
A small downside: due to the oil storage method being different from traditional ones, it cannot be visually observed; you can only judge whether the pod is used up by the inability to draw vapor or a change in flavor.
From a high-tech perspective, there haven't been many new technological advancements, but its advantages lie in the smoking experience. The adjustment of airflow resistance can be said to be the biggest highlight of this product, with the resistance difference from traditional cigarettes being very subtle, and the cylindrical shape provides a nostalgic bite feel, reminiscent of the first time lighting up a cigarette.
Flavor Experience
Mint (50mg nicotine salt)
The mint tobacco flavor depicted in the image seems to be a design flaw; the tobacco flavor is hardly noticeable. The initial taste is a refreshing coolness, with a smooth throat hit. After a moment in the lungs, a wave of coolness can be felt, making it very pleasant in the hot summer. The aftertaste is between mint candy and chewing gum, leaving a subtle mint fragrance in the mouth, providing a refreshing and comfortable feeling. This flavor is suitable for light or moderate smokers and is one of the closest to the original mint flavor among many mint e-liquids I have tried; it is also my favorite among the four existing flavors.
Strong Mint (with Vitamin E)
A blessing for mint lovers, this is the first time I have encountered a high nicotine salt e-liquid that can replace the throat hit with coolness. However, due to various factors such as device, structure, and data, it is only compared with the mint pod in the product. The flavor and mint sensation are similar, with the initial coolness feeling enhanced by about two to three times compared to regular mint. The throat hit feels like taking a sip of ice-cold mountain spring water infused with fresh mint leaves, and after exhaling, a freezing sensation lingers on the tongue. Due to the high coolness and high nicotine, it does not fall short compared to the throat hit, so there is no need to worry about excessive nicotine intake. This flavor is recommended for light to moderate smokers, effectively reducing smoking volume and dependence on nicotine.
Tobacco (50mg nicotine salt)
This tobacco flavor includes caramel as a base, providing a rich and sweet taste upon inhalation, with a strong throat hit. [Three puffs are satisfying, five puffs get you high]. The strong throat sensation easily satisfies the needs of “smokers,” so heavy smokers should not miss it. The aftertaste retains the unique aroma of tobacco, allowing for a slow savoring of the sweet caramel flavor. Personally, I am not a tobacco enthusiast, and the intensity of tobacco oil does not suit my lighter taste; I have tried few tobacco-flavored e-liquids, so this description is based solely on taste perception for reference.
Blueberry Mint (with Vitamin E)
The initial taste is slightly cool, with a hint of sweet and sour blueberry flavor, and the throat hit is almost negligible. The aftertaste is rather bland, with no clear blueberry flavor. Exhaling through the nose reveals a more pronounced blueberry taste, and after finishing, there is a slight coolness left in the mouth. In comparison, I find that the vapor from e-cigarettes has a stronger blueberry flavor, making it a good choice for non-smokers or as a breath freshener.
I suggest that those with no or low nicotine cravings should avoid excessive consumption of nicotine pods at once. For reference: I personally smoke an average of one pack every three days, and after taking ten puffs in a row, I experienced dizziness and nausea from excessive nicotine intake. This data is for reference only and may not be entirely accurate; individual constitution and nicotine tolerance should be considered. I do not recommend everyone to “overindulge”; health is the most important thing.
Unconsciously, we have reached the end. After a week of experience, overall, this small device has many commendable aspects. However, I have always said that no product is perfect; while gaining strengths, shortcomings will also follow. This product's advantage lies in its nearly perfect smoking experience, with a remarkably high degree of airflow resistance and good e-liquid configuration being the biggest highlights. The downside is that the product still lacks a bit in user-friendly design. Overall evaluation: excellent, please continue to improve and provide players with a more complete product experience! I am Jacky, see you next time.
