One category in particular has drawn a great deal of attention from vapers—that is the pod system. Its widespread popularity has helped countless longtime smokers reduce how often they smoke, and some have even successfully quit. That was also our original reason for getting into e-cigarettes.
When using large cloud-chasing vaping devices outdoors, we more or less affect the people around us. I’m sure it’s not just me who has gotten disapproving looks from passersby after exhaling a huge cloud on the street. Before the public fully understands or accepts e-cigarettes, pod systems may be more suitable for use outside, since they are easy to carry and simple to use.
SMOK recently launched a new pod system called the NOVO. The packaging uses an overall black theme. The front features an image of the device itself, and from the packaging it appears more business-oriented. The review sample I received today is the black version, and the brand’s distinctive black-and-white snakeskin pattern makes it instantly recognizable as a SMOK product!

The SMOK NOVO is very compact, about the same size as a standard lighter. It fits perfectly in the hand and is extremely portable. The body uses an overall smooth curved design that feels excellent in the hand, while the glossy finish enhances its texture and gives it a solid, sturdy look. SMOK products have always been well made, with impeccable attention to detail.
The front features the SMOK logo, while the back has the NOVO logo.
The pod connects quite securely to the device. Inside, adaptive contact pins touch the copper electrodes at the bottom of the pod, creating a tight connection without looseness. The NOVO uses an air-activated switch, so it fires automatically when you inhale, making it simple to operate while also ensuring safety.

The flat mouthpiece fits the curve of the lips perfectly and feels very comfortable in use.
The NOVO pod is very finely made. The black matte material feels substantial, with a 2ml capacity and support for repeated refilling. Open the rubber plug on the side fill port and you can add e-liquid. The fill port is wide enough to accommodate a needle-tip bottle. The pod seals very well, and after a full day of use there was no leaking at all. To test the seal, I even shook it hard several times in my hand, and not a single drop leaked out.
While vaping, a small indicator light in the middle of the front of the device stays on. When you stop inhaling, the light turns off accordingly. Charging is done via the USB cable; during charging, the indicator light is red, and once the battery is full, the light turns off automatically.
The NOVO’s draw resistance and mouth-to-lung experience are among the closest to traditional cigarettes of any pod system I’ve used so far. For this review, I used Halo PRIME 15 nicotine salt e-liquid. The vapor and flavor are fairly concentrated and very close to a cigarette, with the tobacco notes coming through especially rich and full-bodied. It is recommended to use it with higher-nicotine e-liquid or nicotine salt e-liquid to achieve a satisfying flavor experience and a strong sense of satisfaction. The built-in 450mAh battery can support frequent use throughout the day, and the 2ml pod capacity can last around two days (I tend to pick it up for a few puffs whenever I have time).
After extended use, if too much condensation builds up near the mouthpiece, simply remove the pod and shake it a little. There’s no need to worry about e-liquid flying out. Then wipe away the condensation with a tissue.
