Exclusive Teardown Images of a New MOTI E-Cigarette Revealed — Is a Smart E-Cigarette Coming?
Recently, I obtained some real videos and teardown images of the next-generation MOTI e-cigarette. After research, it is quite interesting.
Last week, Blue Hole reported exclusively that MOTI, the second-ranked e-cigarette brand in the domestic market, received $31 million in Series A funding from Yuzhu Capital, raising concerns about the e-cigarette industry and capital markets. Previously, MOTI had completed a $10 million pre-Series A funding from Real Fund in January 2019.
There are not many brands initiating large-scale financing in the second round of e-cigarettes. Besides RELX, MOTI has a relatively large investment amount, and Blue Hole is particularly focused on the capital market and user market performance of MOTI.
MOTI currently offers two products: the MOTI pod system and the disposable MOJO device. The founding team has been in the e-cigarette business since 2010 and possesses rich experience and resources in the supply chain, but the team is quite low-key, with only CMO Zhou Jie rarely appearing in public.

This week, we visited some supply chains in Shenzhen, the capital of e-cigarettes, and gained a lot of insights. Yesterday, not only did we break the news about the new round of financing for the e-cigarette supply chain, but we also received the latest videos and some suspicious spy shots of the MOTI pod system.
From the videos, the new appearance of MOTI has not changed much. The black metal body is laser-engraved with the MOTI logo, but there are significant changes in the three-hole breathing light on the tobacco rod compared to existing products.
The back of the rod has CE certification and non-recyclable markings. This logo is a bit too large.
The CE mark is a safety certification mark considered a passport for manufacturers to open and enter the European market. The EU market requires mandatory certification, meaning that the product meets the basic requirements of the EU's "New Approach to Technical Harmonization and Standards" directive, which is a mandatory requirement for products.
It may not seem like much, but this is just the excitement of an outsider. We must wait and see.
The traditional small e-cigarette circuit board structure is relatively simple, with fewer components, and most circuit boards are only the size of a fingernail. However, the internal components of the new MOTI are evidently much more complex, with a size nearly three times that of traditional circuit boards.
We initially speculated that the design is very complex, adding a port number reminder function, but after looking at other internal structure images, we found that the circuit board size does not show significant differences from other brands.
We speculate that this new product from MOTI contains many components, likely including a data transmission module, and may even want to connect with mobile phones?
We know that smartwatches need to pair with apps and phones to read some data. This is what MOTI seems to be aiming for, but after checking the Apple App Store, we found that MOTI does not have a related app.
However, we judge that the complex component structure and the possibility of app connectivity are very high. When using the app, can it control throat hit, resistance, vapor volume, and vapor density?
There are many possibilities; could it be that in the era of large vapor, temperature control technology is added? Friends who enjoy big vapor can leave comments to inspire me.
Blue Hole boldly speculates that MOTI is likely aiming to become a smart e-cigarette, recording user data like a fitness tracker and generating smoking reports in an app after connecting?
For example, how many puffs you take, the maximum depth, how long it takes, and even the frequency of puffs, etc. What is the world of e-cigarettes?
These speculations need confirmation, but they could indeed work. I don't know if you've noticed that there are actually four atomization cores in the teardown images. Let's take a look at another spy shot.
The first one on the right is best identified as a cotton core, while the left three should be ceramic cores. The second one on the left may be a Microwell FEELM ceramic core.
Microwell is also one of MOTI's supply chains. Previously, MOTI represented its self-developed atomization core technology.
Blue Hole speculates that MOTI may compare the effects of several atomization cores to match the next generation.
Additionally, we can draw a clear conclusion that this product adopts a new filter core structure, which will help solve the two major issues of oil leakage and bomb sticking in the industry?
If this seemingly app-compatible smart e-cigarette product can ultimately pass testing, it is likely to become MOTI's flagship product. However, the modification of the cartridge structure means many unknowns, and we currently do not have a timeline for the new product's release.
Another topic we are concerned about is that the price of such a complex product will definitely be higher than existing products. Currently, MOTI's three-pod product is priced at 269 yuan. Will this be MOTI's entry into the high-end market?
Blue Hole's report this week on Luo Yonghao's next-generation Ono e-cigarette may be priced at $500-$600. What will the pricing be for MOTI's new product after its release?
