“The Rise and Fall of Bottom-Feeding Box Mods”

Bottom-feeding (BF) box mods were all the rage last year; it seemed that if you didn't have one in hand, you weren't really into vaping. I had been following the earliest BF box mod, which came with its own chip, but it didn't gain much popularity at the time. It wasn't until 2017 that BF box mods started to gain traction in the market, capturing the attention of players, and some atomizer manufacturers quickly released dual-use versions to meet market demand. However, most BF box mods do not come with chips, and those that do are few and far between, with varying quality and certain safety concerns. BF box mods require squeezing the e-liquid bottle to saturate the cotton, which players jokingly refer to as "squeeze and play." However, controlling the amount of e-liquid can be tricky, often leading to excessive e-liquid leaking from the airflow holes, resulting in a very unpleasant experience. Consequently, the BF box mod market began to decline.

Similarly, everyone has different preferences and attitudes towards certain things. I believe there are still some who have a long-standing affection for BF mods, and I count myself among them. This time, I received the Arctic Dolphin Anita 100W BF box mod, and the packaging is as shown in the picture.

I got the wood grain panel, and the texture feels quite realistic when I touch it.

The overall build quality of this box mod is quite good, with attention to detail. The interior of the box is free from visible wires and joints, and the positive and negative markings for the battery are quite prominent. It comes with a battery sleeve, and the 18650 battery needs to be used with the sleeve. It is said that it can also use 20700 and 21700 batteries, but I don't have those batteries on hand to test. The e-liquid bottle is the most basic type, but the 8ml capacity provides decent longevity.

The Arctic Dolphin Anita 100W offers four working modes: Power, BYPASS, Temperature Control (Ni/Ti/SS), and Curve (with 6 presets), making the chip functionality quite powerful and comprehensive.

【Conclusion】

After using it for a few days, this mod feels very user-friendly. The faux wood panel feels great, and the chip is powerful, accommodating various play styles. The button feedback is crisp and strong, and the overall build quality is excellent, though it does feel a bit plastic. It's very lightweight in hand, and when paired with a stainless steel atomizer, it looks quite good. However, I must say I find the aesthetic choices of the manufacturer’s designer a bit questionable; they seem to cater to an older demographic. I wonder if there will be stickers released later to allow users to customize their preferred style.
