Unarmed Black Man in California Shot Dead After Pointing E-Cigarette at Police

According to foreign media reports, an unarmed Black man in El Cajon, California, was recently shot and killed by police. Police said on the 28th that the man was shot after taking an e-cigarette out of his pocket and pointing it at officers.
According to reports, El Cajon police said that 38-year-old Alfred Olango was shot and killed by one officer after taking an e-cigarette from his pocket and pointing it at police, while another officer deployed a Taser.
El Cajon police had recently received a report about a man in his 30s behaving erratically. Police Chief Davis said that, according to the report, the man was acting abnormally and walking in traffic, putting both himself and drivers at risk.
Davis said the caller identified herself as the man’s sister and told police at the time that he was mentally unstable and unarmed. Investigators have not yet been able to confirm the caller’s identity.
Davis said, “We tried to ask her to speak with us, but as you know, she was very upset and unwilling to cooperate.”
