By now, most people are probably already quite familiar with SMOK’s product-line style. The company has also kept pushing for breakthroughs in beginner-friendly regulated stick kits. Although each new regulated stick kit may feel broadly similar at first glance, today we’re bringing you a review of a regulated tube setup from SMOK: the company’s latest STICK PRINCE kit. Its configuration and looks are likely to win over plenty of newcomers who want big clouds but are wary of the risks of mechanical devices.
Everyone is already very familiar with SMOK’s packaging style, so there’s no need to go into too much detail here. That said, the crown graphic still looks quite bold and imposing. Inside the package are the STICK PRINCE regulated tube device, one TFV12 Prince atomizer, one spare coil head, one charging cable, one user manual, and one pack of spare O-rings. At the top of the tube body is a diamond-like fire button, surrounded by a ring of yellow plastic trim. During operation, a breathing light illuminates around the button. The button is light to press and feels good, but it is also easy to trigger accidentally. It’s recommended to power the device off when not in use to avoid accidental firing. Behind the button is the USB charging port, and below the port is a charging indicator light. Around the bottom of the tube is a design element that echoes the look of the atomizer, and the patterned edges are chamfered so they won’t feel sharp in the hand.
The atomizer is the TFV12 Prince, also one of SMOK’s recent releases and a visually striking cloud-focused atomizer. It comes standard with two 0.17-ohm single-coil heads, balancing both vapor production and flavor. Its 8ml e-liquid capacity is enough for daily use, and the top-fill cap with a locking mechanism does a good job of preventing accidental opening.
The Prince atomizer is currently one of SMOK’s flagship atomizers. Whether in design optimization or overall appearance, it shows a clear improvement over the company’s earlier products. The bulb-shaped glass tank provides a large 8ml capacity, enough to keep it going for most of the day without running dry. One especially well-executed design feature is the locking fill cap, which feels more secure than the TFV8 series.
The STICK PRINCE is a constant-voltage electronic cigarette tube mod with a built-in battery. Officially, the battery is rated at 3000mAh, which should satisfy a typical user for a full day. The advantage of this kind of simple “no-fuss stick” is obvious: users do not need to worry about complicated power adjustments. The chip automatically provides a naturally stepping-down battery output of 3.4V to 4.2V based on the resistance of the atomizer.
The manual does not specify the wattage or charging current of this regulated tube, so I had to test it myself. For charging, I used a 1A charger. After charging for one hour, there was no abnormal heat. I did not test it with a 2A charger. I also took a look at the actual power output while dry-firing coils. The build used 28*28+40 Ni80, loosely wrapped for 6 turns, on a Merlin MINI single-coil atomizer at around 0.4 ohms. Compared with dry-firing the same setup on a box mod at 40W, the speed and result were roughly the same on this tube device. Since this was judged by eye, there is bound to be some margin of error, but I estimate it is probably around a 50W regulated tube. Otherwise, it likely wouldn’t have been paired with the M4 coil head. I also tried the actual burst performance at 0.2 ohms.
A 528 dual-coil build worked normally without issue, but the burst performance was clearly not as aggressive as a mechanical tube. It felt slightly softer. After all, this is a regulated constant-voltage device. I had previously used a Tesla constant-voltage box mod. Setting the battery aside, it would have been nice if this Prince tube had a voltage prediction function—such as different indicator light colors for different voltage ranges—as a kind of warning system. Still, in terms of looks, it definitely surpasses that Tesla device by quite a bit.
OK, that wraps up this introduction to the SMOK STICK PRINCE. Its overall automatic power adjustment does an excellent job of making it truly grab-and-vape. Simple and easy to use, the Stick Prince is a worthwhile option whether you’re a beginner or someone looking for a cigarette alternative. It is very lightweight, convenient to carry when going out, and won’t weigh down your pocket. If the complexity of using adjustable box mods and similar devices has left you unsure where to start, then a simple and user-friendly “no-fuss stick” like the STICK series is well worth considering.
