Employee Caught Smoking Marijuana at Work Faces Dismissal; US Supreme Court Gives Him a Second Chanc

According to ABC News, in Connecticut, a sanitation worker named Gregory Linhoff was fired by the University of Connecticut Health Center after a police officer found him smoking a marijuana cigarette in a public vehicle while on duty. He was then arrested, but the charges were later dropped.

His employer said they had no choice but to dismiss him, because keeping him on the job would send the wrong message to other coworkers.

However, the state’s highest court disagreed, ruling that the punishment was too harsh and saying that Linhoff’s consistently good work record meant he should be given a second chance.
