However, after using them, some consumers reported that compared with e-liquid made with traditional nicotine, e-liquid containing nicotine salts produces less throat hit and fails to deliver the stimulating, satisfying throat sensation they want.

To achieve the throat hit associated with traditional nicotine, the common approach is to add traditional nicotine into nicotine salt e-liquid.

Recently, A-P Bio revealed that its nicotine salt technology has made a new breakthrough: it has developed a pure nicotine salt e-liquid product.

Put simply, this means users can get that stimulating, satisfying throat sensation without adding traditional nicotine to nicotine salt e-liquid.

Engineers at A-P Bio said that adding traditional nicotine while blending nicotine salt e-liquid can indeed make consumers clearly feel a rapid increase in throat hit, meeting the needs of e-cigarette users. But what kind of e-liquid should such a product be considered? Nicotine salt e-liquid? Nicotine-containing e-liquid? Bluntly speaking, it is a pseudo nicotine salt e-liquid.

In short, the throat hit issue in nicotine salt e-liquid should not be solved by mixing in nicotine. Instead, further analysis and research should be conducted to validate e-liquid products containing nicotine salts.

Using liquid and gas chromatography, A-P Bio engineers found that nicotine content in nicotine salts is significantly reduced, along with trace components such as ketones, esters, aldehydes, and alkaloids. This suggests that during the chemical reaction that forms nicotine salts, many of the naturally occurring components present in traditional nicotine are lost, which is the main reason nicotine salt e-liquid delivers a weaker throat hit.

After conducting thousands of experiments, engineers and fine chemical analysts at the A-P Bio (London) laboratory ultimately determined that adding pharmaceutical-grade ketones, esters, aldehydes, and alkaloids to nicotine salt e-liquid can enhance the pleasurable throat-hit sensation during inhalation.

By then restoring, at an appropriate temperature, the elements lost from the nicotine salts themselves, it is entirely possible to achieve the taste and throat-hit effect required for e-liquid formulated with pure nicotine salts—without adding traditional nicotine.

The chart below compares the nicotine salts produced by A-P Bio with conventional cigarettes and regular nicotine. In terms of nicotine absorption in the body, the curve for A-P Bio’s nicotine salts is the closest to that of real cigarettes.
