How much is a pack of Soft Red Peony cigarettes, and are they any good? When I first saw this cigarette, it gave me an old-school vibe. Such simple packaging is really rare; nowadays, a lot of effort goes into cigarette packaging.
The bright red background features a simple pink peony design on the upper half, with the word 'Peony' in Chinese at the bottom right. The lines of the design are outlined in gold, adding some small design elements, while the lower half contains warning labels.
The back is not much different from the front, featuring the same peony design, but the bottom right corner has the English word for peony: 'Peony'. The warning labels at the bottom are also different.

After opening the box and taking out a cigarette, I took a sniff, hoping to catch a hint of plum fragrance. Surprisingly, there was indeed a scent, though I’m not sure if it’s just psychological. I squeezed the cigarette, and the fullness was acceptable.
The filter is yellow, with some faint white specks visible on it. The cigarette itself has the peony design and logo printed on it.
The bottom of the cigarette has the code 329, which is surprisingly not 333. I’m not sure how to distinguish between 333 and other regular ones; there should be some differences in the packaging, and the price might be slightly higher.
Upon opening one, the tobacco is slightly darker in color, and the cut is relatively uniform, though there are some small fragments.
Tasting Experience
After lighting one, I exhaled the first puff, then took another drag. I didn’t really taste the plum flavor; the smoke was fairly full-bodied. After a few more puffs, I realized there was no plum flavor at all, just the ordinary taste of tobacco.
As I continued to smoke, I found the smoke not very smooth; there was no plum flavor, and the aroma was somewhat lacking. Clearly, one should not have overly high expectations for its performance.
As I smoked further, I noticed that the initial few puffs were quite decent, but the off-flavors gradually increased. Overall, it was satisfying.
However, after finishing, I felt a bit bitter in my mouth, and towards the end, it burned like a Zhonghua cigarette.
