According to ABC News, in Connecticut, a sanitation worker named Gregory Linhoff was fired by UConn Health after a police officer caught him smoking a marijuana joint inside a public bus while he was on duty. He was subsequently arrested, but the charges were later dropped.
His employer said they had no choice but to dismiss him, as keeping him on the job would send the wrong message to other employees.
However, the state Supreme Court disagreed, ruling that the punishment was too harsh and saying that Linhoff’s previously strong work record meant he deserved a second chance.
If it were you, would you fire an employee for smoking marijuana during working hours?
