Pod systems were still dominating the market in 2019. At some point, pod systems had effectively become synonymous with e-cigarettes. Seeing them every day can get a little monotonous, so today let’s take a look at an atomizer.
1. Packaging
The packaging of this product is very similar to the DAWG, with differences mainly in the VI branding. It opens in a way that strongly resembles a ring box. On the front of the package, two rods cross over each other, with an icon in the middle that looks a bit like a camera aperture, and the word VAPEPORN printed below. The sides show Asmodus anti-counterfeit information and color details. The atomizer comes in three colors: black, green, and red, rather than the more traditional black, gold, and silver combinations. The bottom features some product information in English and other standard details.
After opening the lid, the box is divided into upper and lower layers. The first layer contains the main atomizer body, packed very securely. The second layer is the accessories compartment, which includes the atomizer, manual, hex wrench, several O-rings, a bottom-feeding screw, premade coils, an electrode wrench, and other items.
2. Appearance
This time, we chose the red version for the review. The surface uses an anodized finish, and rather than a bright red, the color is closer to burgundy. There are three round airflow holes on each side, positioned around the middle of the outer sleeve. It has a gold-plated base and a fairly standard black 810 drip tip. There are also some decorative lines around the lower middle of the sleeve, with a bit of a C4-inspired feel. Structurally, it is not the usual three-piece RDA design. The VICE uses a four-part structure. Those small dots on the red outer sleeve shown in the picture are actually part of a separate inner ring fitted inside the sleeve. Rotating it changes how much it overlaps with the sleeve, thereby adjusting the airflow size.
The dense recessed dots increase friction and make rotation easier, although there are so many that it feels a little visually cluttered. As for the internal structure, the first thing to note is the stopper points on the sleeve and base. First, this ensures the airflow can be accurately aligned with the center area of the coils each time. Second, it prevents the sleeve from spinning freely and becoming impossible to remove if it is fitted too tightly to the mod. However, one issue is that when the airflow is adjusted down to one or two holes, it can no longer face the coils directly. Misaligned airflow still has some effect on performance. From the intake to inhalation path, there are three levels of slope controlling the airflow. Two of them are inside the sleeve and serve to concentrate the airflow: the first is relatively gentle, while the second narrows more aggressively near the drip tip connection. The other is an outward-expanding slope near the upper part of the drip tip. These changing contours continuously alter how the vapor condenses and disperses in the airflow path, clearly intended to refine the flavor experience.
As for how effective it is, that will vary from person to person. It uses a single-post dual-coil deck, with one large screw securing the clamp plate. A spring is built into the clamp, allowing it to open evenly and tighten smoothly during coil installation. The clamp plate also has a serrated design to improve stability. The squonk e-liquid outlet is perpendicular to the post and located right in the center. When used in squonk mode, e-liquid can spread quickly and evenly through the cotton. Another point worth noting is that the post is clearly secured to the base with two screws.
3. Experience
The coil installation process is fairly easy and straightforward. There is an insulating pad between the clamp layers, with the negative terminal on top and the positive terminal below. In terms of width, the included coil is seven wraps, which fits just barely, but if the coil has fewer than seven wraps, it may actually be a bit difficult to install. As for height, even if a standard exotic coil is not completely flat, it can still be inserted directly. There is no need to trim and adjust the leads too much—just insert it firmly, tighten the fixing screw, and make minor adjustments with a coiling rod.
There are no obvious issues with the build quality of this atomizer, and the details are handled very well. Overall, it feels smooth in use, delivers rich flavor, and of course, produces plenty of vapor.
