As long as they are not consumed as food, they should not pose a health risk.

Nicotine primarily serves to create addiction. Research has shown that the main harmful substances in cigarettes are tar and carbon monoxide, not nicotine. Ingesting small amounts of nicotine does not significantly impact health. Because e-cigarettes operate differently, they do not produce tar or carbon monoxide. The vapor they exhale is mainly water vapor, which dissipates quickly in the air and does not affect those nearby, resulting in no secondhand smoke. Overall, e-cigarettes are about 95% healthier than traditional cigarettes.

However, e-cigarettes are not as "safe and harmless" as they claim. Although they do not contain tar, in 2013, German expert Dr. Elizabeth Porter found that e-cigarettes contain a lot of propylene glycol, which can irritate the respiratory tract and cause lung inflammation. In 2014, Japanese scientists discovered formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, both carcinogens, in the vapor of e-cigarettes. Additionally, the vapor contains hazardous substances such as heavy metals like nickel and chromium. Some e-cigarettes have extremely high nicotine content, which may pose a greater risk than regular cigarettes.
