5,000 Experts Spent 3 Years Looking for the Harms of E-Cigarettes—Only to Confirm Cigarettes Are Far Less Harmful

5,000 experts spent 3 years trying to find the harms of e-cigarettes, only to confirm that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes, with 7,000 fewer carcinogens! The UK Department of Health (PHE) is well-known in the e-cigarette industry for having published an "independent research report on e-cigarettes," which not only allowed the UK e-cigarette industry to develop in a "recognized" environment but also greatly boosted the confidence of many global health organizations advocating for smoking alternatives.

PHE's mission is to "protect and improve the nation's health and address inequalities." PHE employs about 5,000 scientists, researchers, and public health professionals, making its research findings highly credible and recognized by the general public. Recently, PHE dropped a bombshell regarding "harm reduction for smoking alternatives," releasing a shocking new research video that clearly illustrates the difference in the amount of toxic chemicals and tar inhaled by smokers on average each month compared to non-smokers and e-cigarette users.
  The Harms of E-Cigarettes
Are e-cigarettes harmful? The starting point is to reduce the harms of e-cigarettes.

PHE is known for its progressive stance on harm reduction, and it recently released an experimental video documenting the destructive harm caused by traditional tobacco products to the human body and how to avoid or reduce this impact by switching to "safer smoking products." This investigation is part of PHE's "health harm reduction campaign," led by health experts Dr. Lion Shahab and Dr. Rosemary Leonard, encouraging smokers to try quitting since January of last year. PHE has also conducted multiple experiments to demonstrate the health impact differences between new tobacco products and traditional tobacco products, confirming that "e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes and reduce about 7,000 carcinogens" in an independent research report.

E-cigarettes, the harms of e-cigarettes, are e-cigarettes harmful?

The harms of e-cigarettes, research results show a stark contrast.

The study illustrated this point by replicating the effects of "inhaling cigarette smoke," "e-cigarette vapor," and "normal air" in three glass domes filled with cotton. Each dome was connected to a diaphragm pump, providing continuous inhalation of the three different gases, with the cotton balls representing the lungs. The inhalation amounts of traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes were approximately equal to the average monthly usage of the users.

At the end of the experiment, the cotton ball in the glass dome testing cigarettes was brown, the inner wall of the dome was brown, and the tube leading to the pump was coated with thick tar. On the other hand, the glass dome receiving e-cigarette vapor showed no changes, except for some water vapor on top, and the cotton ball was only slightly colored by the vapor. As for the dome receiving natural air, there were no changes except for water vapor on the glass dome.

PHE's Director of Health Improvement, Professor John Newton, stated: "This experiment clearly demonstrates the stark contrast between the impacts of new tobacco products and traditional cigarettes. If thousands of smokers who could quit smoking with the help of e-cigarettes delay due to incorrect safety concerns, it would be tragic. We need to assure smokers that switching to e-cigarettes is less harmful than using traditional cigarettes. This video indeed highlights the destructive harm caused by each cigarette to the human body and helps people see that 'using e-cigarettes may only bring a small fraction of the risk.'"

Still, there are misunderstandings about the harms of e-cigarettes.

Sadly, even though PHE strongly advocates for the harm reduction efficacy of "smoking alternatives," market surveys still find that 44% of traditional cigarette users in the UK "incorrectly believe that using traditional cigarettes is as harmful as using e-cigarettes or do not know that e-cigarettes pose lower health risks." PHE realizes that at the start of the new year, at least 500,000 traditional smokers will attempt to quit smoking, hoping this video will urge them to use different quitting plans to increase their chances of success in quitting.

Overall, this video released by PHE serves as a strong boost for the global e-cigarette industry. Although similar studies abound online, they are often funded by industry groups or related interests, rather than released by a national health agency, making PHE's research video more influential in terms of credibility and endorsement of the efficacy of smoking alternatives. #p#分页标题#e#

Perhaps the impact of the video on the UK population "wanting to quit smoking" ultimately depends on the "mainstream media." However, through PHE's ongoing research on e-cigarettes and the gradually opening new tobacco markets worldwide, we can predict that the traditional tobacco market will experience a rapid decline in the coming years. We believe that with the tireless efforts of industry colleagues to continuously promote "positive information," smoking alternatives will undoubtedly become the "mainstream products benefiting traditional smokers," thus building a bridge for smokers to embrace a "healthy life."
