Yesterday, a Huoqi e-cigarette user in our group asked me whether a torn battery wrap could cause a short circuit in a mechanical mod and create danger. In everyday device use, battery safety is something no Vapor user can avoid. As the power source of vaping devices, batteries are something we must take seriously. Here, Vaping News Network will first talk about a very common battery issue many users run into: as we continue using them, the battery wrap, which is not especially durable, often ends up with all kinds of tears and damage.
If your battery looks like the first picture, do not take it lightly. That area is the positive terminal, which is relatively the most likely part of the battery to develop a serious problem. If your battery looks like the second picture, you can relax a little, because that area is the negative terminal. It is not just the small "flat" ring we can see in daily use that is the negative side—the entire body of the battery is negative. So if the wrap is torn there, at most it only increases negative-side contact and will not affect the overall safety of the battery. If you really do not want to deal with it right away, using some tape as a temporary fix is understandable. Of course, that is only an emergency solution; if possible, handle it properly.
Before we start fixing it, I’ll first strip off its "clothes" so everyone can see the structure of the battery’s positive terminal.
It looks like this.
You can clearly see the structure of the positive terminal. The small round platform in the middle is the positive terminal of the battery. Outside that small round platform, the surrounding ring is already the negative terminal. So if we touch the battery’s positive platform with a wire and then touch the surrounding ring, the battery will short-circuit and become dangerous. To prevent this kind of very likely user error, battery manufacturers added a layer of protection.
It is this.
Please note that small white ring—it may also be another color. Its purpose is insulation. If the battery wrap around the positive terminal is damaged, this ring helps prevent the metal from directly contacting both the positive and negative terminals and causing danger. This is the battery’s second safety barrier against accidents (the first barrier is the battery wrap, and the third barrier is the safety vent), so we must never throw this little ring away.
Next, let’s start fixing it by giving the battery a new "outfit."
This is the replacement battery wrap (Vaping News Network’s small shop also sells them; friends who follow the public account can get one free with e-liquid purchases).
There are many styles. Here we’ll use a Hulk-themed one.
1. Step One
Completely tear off the damaged battery wrap, open up the Hulk wrap, and slide the battery into it.
5. Step Five
Stand the battery upright or place it on the ground, then start heating the sides of the battery.
6. Step Six
All done. Now the battery looks brand new again!
