This study was proposed by Dr. Jo Brett, a senior researcher at Oxford Brookes University’s Department of Health and Life Sciences.

"Smoking is a recognized risk factor for many common cancers," she said. "It is the largest preventable cause of cancer in the world.

"The problems caused by smoking continue after a cancer diagnosis. It increases the risk of treatment complications, cancer recurrence, and the development of second primary tumors, leading to an increased risk of death. Therefore, it is crucial to encourage these patients to quit smoking."
